Cluster v2a (12 GOP, 3 GOP & 6 GOP)- Released 31 May 2012
FOR LONG RECORDINGS. VBR Long GOP (12 GOP) edition of Driftwood matrix driving 24pH with deblocking and high i frames (1,180,000 sized i frames in 80% mode). HBR/1080i Modes pushing 24p modes. 720p (GOP6) Working and spanning. mjpeg mode- simply the best around. Inc. Per Lichtmann's (thepalalias) top quality all singing-all dancing and quite brilliant 'Pasadena Pulse' audio settings.
Cluster v2e (The ALL 6 GOP setting)- Released 31 May 2012 V High i frames on 24p (you cant get any higher on death charts) 120+mbps, 80% mode works, V High HBR (800+ on death charts), v High 720p (600/700+ on death charts), 2K HD resolution 2048 x 1152 pixels - Highest quality MJPEG, Highest qual mjpeg SD. Great Audio from Per Lichtmann once again. NOW with in camera playback
NOTE ABOUT CLUSTER:
v2a = is 12 gop on 24p and 1080i50, 6 gop 720p and 3 gop 1080i60. This settiing is aimed at NTSC users.
v2e = all 6 GOP with 2k rez mjpeg & incam playback. (v2b, 2c and 2d are superceded by 2e) work for both NTSC AND PAL users.
Therefore, anything inbetween 2a and 2e, forget about them!
So, in summary, v2a or v2e are all you need to know about in this v2 release.
Driftwood Mysteron. - Released 29th March 2012
Top notch 24pH Intra setting with deblocking. 720p50/60 (GOP3/6) Workling and spanning. HBR / 1080i INTRA. Plus special burst mode setting of Mysteron giving 170M+ recordings and 900k Intra frame sizes at 5 secs hi detail, longer at less detail.
Driftwood Sedna 'Settings' - Release 15th March 2012, 01:30am
Stats: 24p Intra, 1080i/HBR Intra, 720 GOP3/GOP6 all settings as Orion with Sedna Matrices:-
A = High Detail matrix Good for Wide full detail shots.
B = Good allround detail matrix Great all round wide / mid shots.
C = Softer detail matrix Softer skin tonal detail.
Two packs, one at Quantisation 20 (default), the other AQ1 (pushed the Quantisation and bitrate further still). Note: AQ2 to 4 is unnecessary. Q20 is REALLY pushing the Quantisation to best levels without having to use AQ. Q20 Bitrate is measured to detail and will achieve in places AQ3 or AQ4 size bitrates without distorting Q so much as before.
Driftwood 'Cluster' v1 With Orion (AVC Intra adapted) Matrix VBR 'Settings' - Released 9th March 2012 1am
Stats: Upto 72M 24p, Upto 36M HBR, Upto 36M 720p modes. (*All REC MODES include B frames)
Driftwood Quantum X (v4d Orion) 'Dark Matter' Matrix Pack + HBR FIX - CBR 'Settings' - Released 18:30pm 06/03/2012
Details: Featuring the new 'Dark Matter' matrix set (three version variations) based on current Orion Matrix with hi/lo freq adjustments. Plus 720p on 9/6 GOP. AQ is NOT required. This is a constant Q (Q8) CBR setting which performs measurably better than with AQ4 on. All other settings as before. INFO: Orion 4d with Dark Matter matrix pack. Three adjusted matrices to try out, all scaled from perceived HVS Great Quality (v1) to middle of these (v2) and perceived HVS Highest quality (v3). HVS = Human Visual System. This is sharper than the Orion matrix of yore which is still great but many of you wanted to pull out a few extra stops. Let's see if this helps YOU. Only other changes from Orion 4b are GOP Releated, 720p is 9/6 for NTSC/PAL.
Driftwood Quantum X v5b and v5c 'β Pictoris' (baby Quantum X) VBR & CBR versions 'Settings' - Released 10:30am, 01/03/2012
INFO: Two versions - 1) CBR constant Bitrate at 75M, 2) VBR Adaptive Bitrate 35-75M
There are actually four versions (two in each pack CBR/VBR versions) for you to try out of Pictoris, two different matrices - v5b is the new hybrid matrix, v5c is the Orion included matrix. with NEW Driftwood scaled Panasonic GH2 Matrix meets AVC-INTRA Matrix hybrid (somewhere in the middle of Orion matrix meets GH2 Stock matrix) inc;- Settings primed for 50/75M Standard Rec Modes plus additional 25M for Etc Mode, 1080p24 on INTRA 50/75M Standard/75M Etc Mode, 1080i50/60 INTRA 50M /75M Etc Mode, 720p50/60 GOP6/9 40/75M, Standard/75M Etc, MJPEG Highest Quality 1920&720 Mjpeg modes. Reality check: Nothing can beat ANY of the GOP1s on 24p. I have conducted my own tests and as far as detail goes if you want the best, stick to GOP 1 on 24p. Sedna, Canis, Mysteron, Quantum settings are right on it but will consume vast amounts of memory (147Mbps roughly) on high detailed scenes - each interpretation of my GOP1 Intra settings vary on the matrix - The Sedna and Canis Majoris settings are my own in-depth studied matrices. The Orion settings are my adapted AVC INTRA 100 matrices, all the other Quantums are Panasonic GH2 stock matrices - each and all are great at 147mbps but produce adjusted slants to wards different parts of the chroma spectrum and the hi/lo frequency range.
The nature of the beast is that nothing comes near to 24p in the looks department as far as 1080i/HBR or 720p at 50 frames or 60 frames per second the i frame/p or b frame sizes never come consistently close because of the memory limitations in the GH2.
No one should kid themselves. The GH2 camera is excellent but will NEVER produce perfect 25p, 30p, 50p or 60p. However, you can achieve excellent results and with the right lighting and scene / construction you can get close.
Try ANY setting from anyone - film the same busy detail scene and look into the distance. Driftwood INTRA settings resolve more detail - and in the shadows. Also try against HBR/720 etc... the same result.
Once you start adjusting patches in HBR or 720 modes - just as soon as youve got great B frames (or P frames) the i frames start to go down - vice versa when you get really high i frames. We're all fighting with GOP adjustments - allocating more or less memory to odd or even P/B frames. But the memory size of the GH2 is not unlimited and a careful balancing is called for.
This is why I care mainly on film mode on the GH2 - I make films - and the GH2 is simply great at 24p. Its a royal pain in the arse trying to get really good looking HBR or 720. Believe.
Cluster v2a and v2e are the best Ive seen at these other modes (thats my personal view) and I will be releasing a mixed setting later including Sedna on 24p and 1080i50, with the rest on GOP6 Cluster. A Canis mixed mode will also be released. This will save people the time and stress of having to mix up settings themselves.

In terms of quality mjpeg is not as good as avchd 150mbps. The GH2's mjpeg HD format is traditionally 720. VKs tools allow us to reassign the sizing to (within reason) the size of 2048 x 1152 (2K), together with high quantisation we can spend more bitrate memory on and over the stock settings producing more desireable looking files.
Cluster's mjpeg produce 100+mbps data rate files. However, a consideration; some of the shutter rates will stop recordings or short term them. Try sticking to safe shutters.

cluster v2e- 2k mjpegHD and EXT mode are not a good idea together. the zoom is bigger then the 24H in EXT mode(actually is exactly the same as the 720p in EXT mode) and the noise is noticeable even in 160 iso and well lit subject, but without it looks quite good.
@nemvan at the 3rd scene did you have the lens wide open or something?

Like DeShonDixon asked, is 2k really 2k or is it some kind of upscaled 720 or 1080? Do you really get more details with this 2k or is for example Sedna AQ1 1080p capturing more details? Interesting feature!

Hi all, my first post here. Thanks for all the great work so far, Driftwood's latest settings and Flowmotion V2.01 are my go to settings at the minute (for 24p and 25p respectively).
I'm trying to figure out the best way to shoot timelapse with the GH2 for an upcoming project. I've tried CBrandin's MJPEG 2fps setting, imported it into AE and interpreted the footage as 24p. All seems straight forward.
@Driftwood To benefit from Cluster V2e's MJPEG 2k resolution, is it as simple as changing the fps under the MJPEG setting in ptool from for example 30fps to 2fps? If not, do you think there's a way to achieve this? (If I should start a new thread let me know). Cheers!

@Driftwood I posted about Cluster V2a in the CM thread (Senility is Hell) and I love it, but last night I had a lot of noise in V2e. I need to try both again. Did any of the changes you made change 720-60?

@APXmusic, @benibube Not only just for fun but if you create something good and I think they did, it will have a good chance of getting discovered. Take Matt for example, back in the DVX days, he made a mock music video (http://mattmcdermitt.com/uninvited.html) and got discovered. Went on to shooting music videos for some big name bands. Take Rich for instance, made a video for no budget for a small band (http://www.richlee.com/music_videos.php#24270565) and his career started taking off after that. Now he is a major player working with DNA. A really down to earth guy, never seen him show off or brag about his work either. So you see @benibube, be good at what you do and you will get noticed.
