  • Try Cluster v6 Drewnet.

  • Airgam, Cake would probably meet your requirements, except possibly for in-camera playback. I never tested that. Other hack settings may not span in ETC mode.

cogumelo, PTool can only change the frame rate for MJPEG.

anthonyw, all of the hack settings have some adverse effects, not the least of which is going to be card compatibility when the bit rate is raised. At the low end there are several choices including Sanity and Cbrandin 44M. You just need to go looking and see which ones meet your requirements. You don't need to change the version compare checkbox in PTool. You can name the firmware file GH2__V12.bin every time.

  • Hi everyone, So, I come from a film background and am now shooting a film on the gh2. I'm looking for a patch that gets close to 35mil; things like latitude, ratio, etc.. Can anyone recommend a patch that gets as close to 35mil a patch can get while still maintaining some good reliability? Ambiguous question maybe. Thanks!

  • Hi I'm new to this, and I want to put the driftwood hack on my GH2, I know how to use ptool, but if someone would take their time to explain which driftwood path to download to get the quality as good/better then a Red Epic camera and give the link and the settings to use on the camera that would be great! Thanks!!!

  • Need a hack patch that works well in high contrast. I'm shooting something lit in an area n almost black in another. Is the night patch you guys mention good for this?

  • Do any of the currently available Cluster or Crossfire settings outperform Sedna A, for all-around best quality in 24H?

  • Hello people with knowledge, I just got the panasonic GH2 with a Sandisk 64GB 95MB/s SDXC. I don't know much about the technical part of this camera's. I am a documentary filmmaker. I was thinking about hacking the camera, but i don't know if i should do it after reading about errors and short recording times.. I also can't see the difference any more between all those vimeo/youtube film tests with hacks. Does the hack really make the image look that much better?? I thought the flow motion did some great work with the movement.. did i see that correct? I just don't know which hack to download anymore......

What i want from the hack: - that it is save and stable - long recording time. - pretty image / good flowing movement - good image in the dark (higher iso maybe?) - i have an adaptor for photo lenses on the gh2, the hack needs to work with that. - Nice footage for editing (not TO big sized maybe...)

Who knows the right hack for me? Hope some one can help me out in making the right decision for the hack. So i can start making films with the camera!

    Thanks already.

Greets, Daan The Netherlands (PAL, if thats importent to mention)

  • Edit: mpgxsvcd has helped me sort his setting out on my camera so I will use his for now - thanks!

Copy and pasted from my thread because it got closed :( :

Hi there I have been trying to find a 100 percent stable settings file to download for my GH2 I tried one already from mpgxsvcd and strangely it does not record more than 2 seconds at HBR I have a verbatim class 10 SD card as well which should be more than good enough - this is with the latest ptools (3.66d) and panasonic firmware (1.1) and his 725B settings.

So basically I am wondering if anyone else has come across this and also if there are any other stable settings I can use? As of this date (I found some old ones which I was not sure of) Thanks!

  • @vtablix

I sent you a message with the information you need.

  • I am looking for a very good and stable intra setting with max 120mbs. Any ideas? All the other intra settings are really space consuming. Cheers

  • @Mirrorkisser

They are space consuming because they need to be. Recording with all I-frames but not enough bit rate is much worse than recording with B-frames and more than enough bit rate.

  • just wondering, the gh3 will have a sub 80mbs intra codec...

so what is the best and less space consuming intra codec then?

  • @Mirrorkisser best is a subjective term, you are the right person to judge the different settings for yourself, harsh I know, but true. If you are looking for an intra setting at lower bit rates, I would suggest trying the 24L settings rather than 24H, to find one that fits with your workflow, good luck :)

  • @matthere: lol i knew this was coming when i wrote "best". I know there is no best. I meant a good allround and stable setting. something like flowmotion, where i think everybody would agree its good and stable ^^.

  • @Mirrorkisser :o) There are quite a few things to consider.. the memory card is probably the first consideration, as long as you have the 64/95mbs card then you are right smack bang in the candy shop.. you can expect all settings to be as stable as can be... Then comes lens choice, panasonic/ olympus auto lenses affect stability more than manual lenses... next comes the frame rate that you prefer to shoot at.. 24H seems to be the optimum frame rate for both performance and stability... Then things start getting tricky, when you add in the personal preferences of iDynamic et al..

Really recommend reading for a few months and testing out what sounds and looks good for you.. :) although I understand why a lot of people might want a faster route ;)

Do try the 24L option though.. I really like the Sedna settings but recently away for three weeks in California didn't want to fill too many hard drives, the 24L setting was great and I didn't find any noticable drop in IQ. Good luck finding your favourite!

  • Cheers. I use the sandisk 32gig 45mbs which never gave me any problem so far. last intra setting i tried was AN BOOM! a great setting but said to have stability issues and it demands 140mbs (i write mbs in small letters in both cases, know the diff between bites and bytes though :-) )

I just wonder anyway if the step from flow motion to intra is that big. I really dig the new valkyrie settings but they demand as much space as an intra setting.

sedna seems to be a good point to start with. cheers

  • Hi all,

I'm going to shoot a documentary with a GH1 in a wild animal care park (wild animals that are wounded, abandoned or from smuggling). Most animals are in cage and there are lots of trees covering the sun rays so it can be dark. I did some tests already to see what kind of problems may occur (dark areas, animals running around or hiding, etc). I'll shoot whenever there's sun so there'll be some very contrasting lighting (between sun rays and shadows), I need some details on fur and feathers (there are birds as well).

So what would be the best suited hack for the GH1 to get the most details? I am a motion designer and occasionally shoot stuff for my own projects so I'm no camera specialist (but i love it!). I'm looking for a "film" look (hopefully i'm not bad in postproduction) and fullHD in 24p.

    Thank you for your help!

  • hi, I just got a gf3 with the 14-42mm kit lens (not pancake). I take aerial video with multirotor aircraft. I don't need spanning and am looking for the best image quality without endangering the camera. Most importantly, I need the picture to be as smooth as possible to try to dodge some aerial jostling/vibration. Any recommendations for the best settings/patch? I have mysteron loaded but I have no idea what I'm doing for right now. It says 98mb/s and I have a 94mb/s 16gb hc sony card. Also, what is the benchmarking program that I keep seeing to test bitrate? thanks!

  • ...I was wondering if I use Flow Motion Patch 2.02 and I check the box for Auto Quantizer for 1080 mode what will this do for the recorded footage?

    Thanks.

  • @tenjin

I've never tried this patch at 24p, but lpowell's 75mbps 'peak reliability' patch for the GH1 has been great for me at 25fps..

  • Hi everyone

I'm going to be doing a lot of video with my GH2 with people in cosplay. There will be a lot of panning and motion going on.

I'll be using the GH2 on a Steadicam Pilot, so I'm wondering if there's a patch there that will allow me to capture all the details without shadows disappearing. I'm not too concerned about color since I can fix it in post, but I do want a bitrate which will capture the detail in the outfit.

My plan is to record in 720/60FPS and with playback in a 24 (23.976) setting. Some video may be played back at normal rate and some may be played in slow motion.

I know that Sedna is a popular hack for bringing out details in shadows, but I'll be performing in bright light and hence I'll be stopping down in order to avoid overexposure. Will Sedna still be useful?

I'm not aware of any other hacks that can increase quality so if someone can point me in the direction to look at hacks for this, I'd be grateful =3

  • HI guys,

I got a japanese version of GH2 but I'm in hongkong. So I'll be shooting with PAL 25p. I've read the previous threads about the stable patch for 25p dated 16mar. Mostly Gop3zilla + sedna A settings. However, when i loaded the hack, there is still no language menu for me to choose from unlike other hacks. Also, I'm wondering if there is any update on the stable patches that works great for 25p? Thank you so much.

  • Hi @Kenjikarma -If you want top quality Intra setting, SEDNA look good in 25P ...but don't span. -Cluster 6 Nebula ( GOP6 ) make a good job in 25P, with average bitrate 40mb/s, and span safely with sandisk 45mb/s cards). -Cluster 7 444 Nebula ( GOP6 ) look good too, with average bitrate 50mb/s, but don't span... (maybe with Sandisk 95mb/s card...) You can try flowmotion too, but i don't know if it's spanning

    @+

  • hello, @Kenjikarma - I used to cluster v7 nebula (gop 6) sharp 2 in 25p and it spans with my SD card sandisk 32Go 45Mb/s and sandisck 16Go 95Mb/s, After if someone knows one better to work in 25P, I take it. Thank U

  • Hello, Please help me out. I love an INTRA patch. Have been trying @Driftwood patches and they are great even in HBR 25p I am happy. I need to find an INTRA patch that will span. For longer takes I have been using Flow Motion 2 but I much prefer the look of INTRA. I am using good class 10 cards and also a 64gb 95mbs SDXC card. I have tried all most all the INTRA patches and none span. I love the look of the 9B patches. Am I doing something wrong in camera. Should I possibly be increasing some values on ptools? Thanks and looking forward to you're replies. Albi
