The Sony VENICE 2 Extension System Mini is now shipping. It is a smaller, lighter evolution of Sony’s original Rialto extension system for the VENICE. Built around the same full-frame 8.6K sensor used in the VENICE 2 8K, it lets you separate the lens and sensor from the camera body, allowing you to mount the front end in tight spaces or on gimbals and handheld rigs that wouldn’t normally support a full VENICE configuration. In case you missed the original announcement, the Extension System Mini separates the full-frame 8.6K sensor block from the VENICE 2 camera body. You can check out our hands-on interview article here, and the video embedded below. The idea is simple: move the lens and sensor into tight or complex spaces while keeping the main body elsewhere in the rig. You retain the same imaging pipeline as the VENICE 2 8K, and with firmware v4.0, it can also be used with the VENICE 2 6K. The Extension System Mini connects to the VENICE 2 body via a detachable 4.5 m (14.8 ft) cable that carries both video and metadata, with an optional 12 m (39.3 ft) cable available for more complex rigging. It supports Sony E-mount lenses and includes an ARRI PL adapter with Cooke /i metadata support. A drop-in ND filter set is included, and the sensor block features two assignable user buttons as well as a built-in gyro sensor that records tilt and roll metadata for post-production workflows. With the lens attached. Image credit:...
