Looking Good, And Somewhat Familiar – Understanding the Nikon ZR

The Nikon ZR is a special breed. Offering impressive video quality, probably the best in its segment, the ZR manages to house it all in an impressively compact chassis, about the size of compact stills cameras. If you’re reading this and thinking, “Hmm, that sounds familiar…” you’re not mistaken. The dream of a compact camera capable of great quality is almost as old as the medium. One can even stretch this line as far as Oskar Barnack and the invention of the Leica camera, the Hasselblad 500, and more. In this article, however, we’ll discuss some more contemporary iterations of this concept. While the Nikon ZR may not be a fully-fledged cinema camera, it surely delivers on the IQ front. I will not dive too deep into the definition of cine cameras nor its specs, but we have covered this camera extensively.
