  • @casper Did you skip to read LPowell's first post? The very highest value of this patch is in its using of the Q. Of course auto Q function is unchecked, it is all about Q's fine tuning to avoid GH2's macroblocking. LPowell worked for months on the Q, I belive.

  • Hi, this is my first attempt to install the hack. I am checking settings, that I loaded in ptool and I see that both "Auto quantizer for 1080 modes" and "Auto quantizer for 720 modes" options are unchecked. Is this expected?

  • @utilinet In situations where you need to pack longer video clips into an SD card, I'd recommend trying FM2's 60Mbps modes: 24L, FH, and H. These settings work the same as the corresponding 100Mbps modes with just a notch more compression, and support 4GB file-spanning on Class 10 SD cards.

  • Its quite easy: Less bitrate means less quality. You can save bitrate by using longer GOP patches, but there is tradeofs in motion. All in all: You get what you pay for. ;)

  • Hi all, I tested this hack my GH2 with Motion Flow v2.2 but I find it super hard to pass a 64GB card can hold 7 hours of video in only 1 hour of video. So I would like to know what are the parameters to keep in changes to keep the video quality while reducing the flow may be, I would try to work for the above may at least reduce the video card 4h. Thank you.

  • @ScubaBob it is not unlikely, as different types of SD cards vary extremely regarding the construction, buffers etc. As result, the spanning, camera freezing and errors occur easy if the card isn't fast enough.

If I remember well, LPowell even recommends use of sdxc 64GB 95MBs with the Flowmotion anyway. Check also Faqs on this site, I think one can find many very useful information about SD cards there.

  • Thanks for the conpliments and reply @tetakpatak . I'm using the Sandisk 32gb 45MB/s card perhaps I was pushing the limits of that card at the point of the freeze?

  • This was a commercial shot using a GH2 with flowmotionv2 on some of these shots, I was using Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L . The other cameras being used were the Canon t2i with same lens.

A big lesson learned on this shoot was NOT to use crop sensor mode on the GH2... that footage looked soft. We had a 2X lens doubler that I wish I would have used instead of the crop mode.

  • @ScubaBob wonderful underwater shots, bravo! The fishes were not scared, you move quietly :-)

About freezing: happens here and there, but which SD card did you use? Speaking only out of my own experience, the best card for the GH2 is Sandisk SDXC 95MB/s 64GB and I don't use any other cards anymore. Also freezing appears very seldom compared to other cards I used before.

  • @utilinet I'm not an expert on this, but I think the limitation of shooting only within the 4:2:0 color space is a restriction of the sensor, and can't be resolved with a hack. I think that some external recorders (such as the Ninja) may allow 4:2:2 recording, but not 4:4:4.

  • in fact my card is a Sandisk Extreme SDXC 64GB 45MB / s class 10 and 1, is that it is good and on average how much can I save in time with Flowmotion?

Otherwise should appoint as the original hack GH2_V11 before putting on the map? How to revert to the original if desired???

Thank you for helping the beginner that I am.

  • I apologize for my English is horrible but it is absolutely not my mother tongue.

I find the GH2 hacks and motion flow seems to be a very good compromise for functions and stability but I am surprised that nobody is trying to work our sampling GH2.

Currently it seems to me is 4.2.0 but I see only hacks who seek more flow but not switch to 4.2.2 or 4.4.4, is there a reason?? ???

Is that the Flowmotion works well and has no bugs because I work both in 1080p25 1080p24 than 1080i50 or that Ai and often with the auto-focus.

Thank you for your advice and congratulations to all.

  • @wisiu @mastroiani The bitrates listed for each of Flow Motion's video modes are the peak bitrates, which are important to consider when choosing an SD card. The bitrates reported by most utilities are average bitrates, which will vary depending on how finely detailed your subjects are. The GH2's AVCHD encoder will use only as much bitrate as it needs to encoded the video at the quality level programmed in each Flow Motion video mode. With subjects that have few details, Flow Motion automatically records at its finest quality, and there's no need to raise the bitrate any higher.

  • @LPowell Hi LPowell, apologies if this was asked before. I've been reading the threads and couldn't find an answer. I'm wondering if it's possible or makes sense (in case it's possible) to raise the lowest bitrate setting to a higher setting, so for example the lowest bit rate we get is at least 30/40 mbps? Thanks!

  • Hi Guys This is my first post so apologies for my poor knowledge. I have a question ,I have installed latest flowmotion hack and as far I understand it records around 100mb/s but when I check my files in stream parser 2.6 the average bit rate is around 55 mb/s recording in FSH 25P. When I change to FH then the bit rate is around 30 mb/s . Is that correct or I've got something wrong?

    Thank you

  • Anyone test Flowmotion with a different GOP to see if it disappears the Digital Rain on CS6?

  • Yes, it's a normal GH2 behavior, doesn't have to do anything with patches.

  • i'm new to flowmotion, just to know, when i hit record the colorson the screen change a bit, is it normal?

  • how is the flowmotion 24l mode compared to the cake 2.3 24h? what is the difference between them?

  • I've been using FlowMotion 2.02 on about 5 dives (I bought the GH2 for underwater filming) so far and have been really impressed with the results:

On the last dive, however, the camera locked up (picture froze on the lcd about 7 seconds into a clip). I couldn't do anything underwater to unfreeze the camera (turning on/off, mode dial all did nothing. After the dive I removed the camera from the housing and removed and replaced the battery and everything resumed to normal (of course the last clip was not saved). On the next dive I was about to get a few minutes of shooting in with the remaining battery life with no issues (I was not able to charge the battery after the camera was froze with LCD on for about 120 minutes).

I was shooting in NTSC HBRp30, which I've use successfully before. The only difference was that this was my first time using the Oly 12-50mm macro lens (and was using the power zoom and macro mode). Can this type of behavior be expected every so often with the patch?

  • flowmotion 2.02 24L settings

  • The other thing is about FM and TimeBuster. When I add TB, 24P mode is shooting at 2fps. Does it change anything else in other film options or not interfere in FlowMotion settings?

Wasn't it so, that these 2fps settings are only for the MJPEG part? I tried this a while ago. I simply added these timelapse settings to the MJPEG part of the PTools with FlowMotion settings loaded before. So I had FlowMotion in all modes and did timelapse recordings by simply switching to MJPEG. MJPEG is limited to 2GB filesize, but after all changes I can record around an hour or so - enough for most of my timelapse experiments.

  • Shot with FMv2.02, smooth -2, 14-42.

Even with all of the overhead lights it was pretty dark in there so I think it was shot at ISO 800.

One of the lights in the back right corner of the studio was going crazy and no matter what frame rate or shutter speed I tried it still flickered terribly. When I ran AE's noise reduction I used the temporal noise settings to reduce the flicker but there is still a small trace of it in some shots.

  • What are your favorite Film Modes for Flow Motion? Mine are...

    SMOOTH -2 -1 -2 -2

    NOSTALGIC -2 -1 0 -1
