Tamron has announced the availability of its 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD for Nikon Z mount and Canon RF mount. Those will go on sale later this year, on August 28 and September 26, respectively. The lens was previously available for Sony E-mount and Fujifilm X-mount systems. This new zoom lens offers a focal length range (full-frame equivalent) of 27-450mm on Nikon APS-C bodies and 28.8-480mm on Canon APS-C cameras. The optical design consists of 19 elements in 15 groups with a 67mm filter thread. The Nikon Z mount weighs 635g, while the Canon RF mount weighs 625g. It has a minimum focusing distance of 0.15m (5.9in) at the wide end, achieving a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2, notable for a superzoom lens. The Canon RF version includes a dedicated AF/MF and VC on/off switches. Both mount versions support firmware updates via the Tamron Lens Utility software. Build and weather resistance The lens features moisture-resistant construction with fluorine coatings on the front elements to repel oil and water. According the the company, special lens elements are incorporated to maintain edge-to-edge optical performance across the zoom range.
