Poll: Camera to Cloud Workflow – How Much Has This Technology Really Caught On?

A few years ago, the term “Camera to Cloud (C2C)” emerged and entered our production lives. Backed by leading camera manufacturers like FUJIFILM, Sony, and Panasonic, along with supporting services from Adobe’s Frame.io and Sony’s Creators’ Cloud (to name a few), this technology made us curious to find out just how much traction it has gained. Have you, fellow filmmaker, ever used it or at least given it a try? At its current stage, camera-to-cloud is a service aimed at collaborative workflows. The concept is simple: shoot anywhere, let the camera automatically upload footage to cloud services, and allow others who are not physically present to view, download, catalog, or even start editing your footage. We recognize that this workflow may be less appealing for solo operators unless instant cloud backup is a priority. Camera manufacturers and other companies are investing considerable resources to improve this service. With this in mind, we’d like to know whether you’ve ever needed such a workflow, or if this type of service simply isn’t necessary for your current work. Here at CineD, we use Frame.io during trade shows to instantly upload footage for editing (sometimes by remote editors) and to share footage among our staff members for viewing and commenting.
