Native Support for Apple Vision Pro Coming to Insta360 and GoPro Action Cameras

While WWDC 2025 didn’t see too much earth-shattering news this year, it does appear that Apple is signaling that it isn’t giving up on its Vision Pro AR/VR headset. (Despite, of course, its dismal sales and minor—if any—cultural impact.)Still, for those interested in this bold new future and curious to see if AR/VR catches on more in the coming years, Apple did have some notable news to share. Apple revealed that the company has been working with companies like GoPro, Insta360, and Canon to develop native support for these companies' cameras for the next-gen version of VisionOS.Let’s look at what new technologies and features might be coming to some of your favorite action cameras here soon.Apple VisionOS Partners with Insta360 and GoProThe crux of the news here is that Apple has revealed that the company is developing a new type of QuickTime file which will be called an APMP (Apple Projected Media Profile) that will include new metadata about lenses and the type of non-traditional cameras used which would be helpful info when stitching together for 360-degree and wide field of view video. Since there aren’t many cameras that can offer anything close to 360-degree video these days, Apple is focusing on these partnerships with action camera manufacturers like GoPro and Insta360 that have products like the Insta360 X5 and the GoPro Max.
