Leica has recently released two firmware updates, v3.1.1, for their SL3 and SL3-S mirrorless cameras. This firmware update adds multiple new C4K and C6K video recording formats for the SL3 and many user interface improvements for both cameras. So, let’s take a closer look at these firmware updates! The flagship Leica SL3 mirrorless camera, released in March 2024, features a 60MP full-frame image sensor. It can capture footage up to DCI 8K at 30 frames per second and in ProRes422HQ internally at up to 1080P60. This competent camera was followed up by the SL3-S earlier this year, a more video-centric camera model that can “only” shoot up to C6K/6K resolutions internally at up to 30P, but with Open Gate capabilities. Furthermore, the SL3-S can capture footage in C6K30P in ProRes422HQ internally. If you missed it, you can watch our Leica SL3-S review here.
