LC-Tec has long been researching and developing eND and other liquid crystal products. Now, in IBC 2025, they’ve teamed up with KipperTie to launch some interesting products. Join us as we talk to Jesper Osterman (LC-Tec) and Natasha Allan-Chalmers (KipperTie) to see where electronic filtering is heading, and what can be done with liquid-crystal technologies to provide better filmmaking-related solutions LC-Tec is a Swedish tech company developing liquid-crystal technologies such as optical filters and manufacturing them in-house. Their eND technology controls light transmission electronically with no moving parts and a slim footprint. Together with KipperTie, the duo managed to develop some final products: A compact, electronically controlled ND for adapter drop-in slots, and they are advancing larger 4×5.65-inch solutions for matte boxes, electronic variable diffusion filters, as well as variable star-effect filters. It offers continuously variable ND from 0.6 to 2.1 (about 2–7 stops) with on-device control and Bluetooth app support for remote adjustment and smooth ND ramps. A clear insert can be swapped in when no ND is required. KipperTie x LC-Tec eND. Earlier showings demonstrated continuously adjustable density in a standard tray, controlled from a small external unit. KipperTie and LC-Tec told us at IBC that a matte-box version is in active development,...
