Along with the announcement of some major firmware updates set to be rolled out for several Canon PTZ cameras and other models, Canon has also revealed that the company is adding a new password protection feature to several of its cinema cameras as well.Released, in part, as a way to comply with new EU directives that require internet-connected devices to follow specific security measures, Canon is set to introduce some new security code features that could require (or allow, depending on how you look at it) users to enter a PIN to access the camera.Let’s look a bit deeper at how this would work.Canon Password Protection FeatureSo, while this update does cross over a bit with the firmware updates announced earlier, it’s actually a new feature that will be available with even more cameras. The Canon C400, C80, C70, R5C, and XF605 are all the cameras set to get this new security feature. From the looks of it, this new security feature will be an optional feature that shooters will be able to turn on or off as they desire. If they do want to use it, it can be set up as a simple PIN that would need to be entered every time that the camera is turned on. This new security feature is meant to comply with the EU Radio Equipment Directive which requires certain internet-connected devices to follow specific security requirements.
