  • The patch has 1080i60 FB1 doubled, and it's not crashing :)

You told me FB2 would be calculated automatically.

  • Double the value of 1080i50 FB1 from its default.

    Reason being?

  • @alexufo

The patch is missing a setting for 1080i50. Look for frame buffer size section. Double the value of 1080i50 FB1 from its default.

  • 1) Use your settings http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/comment/42044#Comment_42044
    2) Ptools 200212
    3) Upload to GF2

  • Nick, did you get your GF2? An army of GF2 users are waiting for you ;)

  • @Stonebat Off the top of my head, try this GOP 6 setting: FSH/H Bitrate =100000000, encoder 720p 4 = 11 instead of 5, IQ and Q = 24 or26, ALL GOPs to 6, 60fps Frame limit = 3600000, 50fps =4000000, thats the basics, try it, tune it.

  • This thread is about finding good quality stable setting. These are the steps to take.

    1. Install the 32Mbps patch. Reset all camera settings.

    2. Do the codec stress testing for 1080i60 FSH mode on the provided charts.

    3. Analyze the mts files using GH13 Stream Parser. Report whether it’s success or failure in the proper format. Upload your patch setting if different from the 32Mbps patch. Upload screen capture of the Stream Parser app.

    4. Go out. Start recording. Go through the previous step. See if there’s any noticeable pattern or issue. Report.

    5. Start tweaking the settings. Go through the steps 3 and 4.

The last step would be for more advanced testers. Frankly I’m not an advanced tester. I did what I can from step 1 to step 4, and I didn’t see any issue. But that’s just me. More people would be nice.

For those skipping straight to gop-1 or high bitrate, good luck.

  • Did your camera pass the systematic testing on the stress charts?

  • Last settings: Ai mode shut down on video rec?Blue light are off automaticaly. Is it normal? Video really freezing on vlc - media player and video editor magix works fine.

  • @holmes6

Try to reset everything. There's a menu item for that. Usually I try the option when things don't seem working. Yeap you would need to reset your custom settings.

If that fails, try another sdhc card...

  • @driftwood's 24p has 154Mbps bitrate. That is 154 / 24 = 6.4Mb per I-frame.

GF2 has 1080p30. Let's say infra-frame patch’s I-frame target size is 6.4Mb where the 32Mbps AQ4 GOP-15 already gives such I-frame size. Then intra-frame patch would require 192Mbps bitrate. Also we wanna see improvement in image quality. Gotta achieve AQ3, AQ4, or quantizer setting lower than 22.

Frankly good image quality intra-frame patch for GF2 seems like an impossible goal. I will be happy to be wrong if someone can prove me otherwise :)

More realistic goal would be GOP-6 for better low lighting performance... if GF2 shows similar noise pattern as GH2. That is finer noise grain at higher bitrate. GOP-6 30p consists of 5 I-frames, 20 B-frames, and 5 P-frames. Let's say average size of B-frame and P-frame is 1/3. Then overall bitrate for GOP-6 would be around 70Mbps where @lpowell's flow motion patch has 75Mbps for HBR mode.

If someone can find such setting, GF2 will kick ass where it's already good at 32Mbps :)

  • Can you upload the setting file?

  • Yes, in fact since I started seeing the card read errors I just format the card as soon as the version up is completed every time. Ptool version is 200212.
It's pretty quick to dupe the error if I pan or move the camera much while focused on http://www.personal-view.com/talks/uploads/FileUpload/f7/ca41bdbaa05bd518133efbee3e0d13.png

edit: just tested with 1080p AQ4 set but all other settings unchecked, and could not get an error.. That's good to know that in my case AQ4 only became unstable at higher bitrate.

edit: tested again with Video Bitrate FSH/SH=60000000, Auto Quantizer for 1080 modes=0 - All to motion and short test clip has 58026kbps bitrate, no errors.. To me it's further evidence that the previous errors not caused by card write speed despite the text in the error

  • Strange. I'm using Transcend 16GB Class 6. No error for me.

Did you format the card? Also use the latest PTool.

Changing from AQ4 to AQ0 will lower the image quality.

    Edit: I'm using SanDisk Extream 16GB Class10 30MB/s.

  • I tried Stonebat's http://www.personal-view.com/talks/uploads/FileUpload/31/a704042df61efe4abc3c1502f2cb79.ini from the first post with an adapted manualprime lens (no af). Stable at 720p from what I can tell, but doesn't last long @ 1080 with the test pattern before ""Motion recording was cancelled due to the write limitation of the writing speed of the card". Tried a few other settings and couldn't get 1080 and aq4 to be stable. When I go back to AQ0 I can't seem to dupe that error message regardless of bitrate. I suspect the limitation is not write speed on the card, but processing power required for that aq setting.

  • @vsynryco You gotta learn how to use @cbraindin's GH13 Stream Parser.

Check out http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/443/basic-and-beginner-questions for beginner questions.

For advanced setting, Elecard Stream Analyser is prolly a-must learn tool. I don't know much about the tool. Only a few forum users have gone that far. I'm just waiting for the patch experts join in.

  • Sorry, but I VERY new to this. I just uploaded @stonebat setting file onto my GF2. How can I start testing and see the newly added settings on my camera? Again, sorry for this beginners question. Thanks.

  • My gut feeling is that.... lower AQ setting is worth for much higher bitrate. e.g. AQ3 for 66Mbps.

Let's try to find the best stable setting for AQ4 and default-GOP. It will be a good benchmark for all future patches, and it will entice many GF2 users who have never tried firmware hack.

I'm afraid that unstable lower GOP or higher bitrate might drive away hacked GF2 newbies.

  • sorry for my mistake, i have edited my post.

  • comment removed ^^

  • I went out today and used these settings Video bitrate FSH/SH: 40000000 Video bitrate FH/H:32000000 AQ for 1080:3 AQ for 720:3 I left the video buffer at 1800000 and didn't change anything else. With 1080i60 i averaged 40-42 mbps in most clips and with 72030p i averaged 33 mbps with each clip. It was steady for me with 72030p but the 1080i60 worked 85% of the time. Sometimes i would get the write speed error right away but other clips with same settings in the same area i could record and it would be fine. With this patch i mostly recommend using 72030p and the screen grab is 72030p. If you guys want me to try anything else specific with this patch let me know.

  • Frankly I don't know. I don't have GH13.

  • Stonebat, i ordered the GF2, so i havent one to test; i mean is it possible to get gh1 quality with this little baby? Thanx
