  • the post news no news to keep the attention on the product. I don't think we will see that camera on the shelves before Q4 like Vitaliy said

  • @peaceonearth

In Q4 we can no longer have Canon (in the current form, at least). And certainly few smaller brands will vanish into vain of history.

  • Is the Canon EOS R5 body based on the EOS R?

"What you can see is that it is actually slightly fatter than the EOS R across the top. In my view, it gives it more of a DSLR sort of look to it," David Parry said.

    Why doesn't the EOS R5 doesn't have the EOS R's Multi-function bar?

"We've got the joystick on here, instead of the Multi-function bar. Everybody knows the multi-function bar on the EOS R got a mixed response – some people really got on with it, some people really couldn't get on with it at all," he said. "So maybe going with this is a safer bet – more people are used to the multi-controller."

"Because this is a 5-series, more people at that kind of level will expect functions similar to what you get on a 5D." he added.

So is that why this camera is called the EOS R5?

"It's aimed at that level of the market. This isn't a replacement for the 5D Mark IV or anything like that. But this is a mirrorless 5-series, it's aimed at that segment of the market," he said.

    why so? What form instead?

  • Canon Inc. takes the unprecedented step to announce more specifications of the EOS R5 – a full frame camera currently in development built on the revolutionary EOS R System. Set to redefine mirrorless, today’s update confirms the incredible recording capabilities of the EOS R5 including internal 8K RAW up to 29.97fps and suitability with high-end production workflows.

Proving Canon is an innovative industry-leader that pushes the realms of optical technological possibilities, the EOS R5 boasts features seen only in high-end cinema cameras many times its price point and video features no other mirrorless camera on the market offers. Created as a direct response to growing demand for content creators to shoot both high-quality film and stills, the EOS R5 holds its own as the lead camera in productions – going over and above industry standards and achieving outstanding 8K.

On the set of high-end productions such as commercials, dramas and documentaries, the EOS R5 is an ideal partner to the likes of Canon's brand-new EOS C300 Mark III -- a next generation modular Cinema EOS System camera launched today. In addition to the EOS R5's outstanding still photography specifications, which make it ideal for behind the scenes capture, it's an ideal support filming camera offering:

    • 8K RAW -- non-cropped, internal recording up to 29.97fps
    • Non-cropped, internal recording 8K video capture -- up to 29.97fps in 4:2:2 10-bit in Canon Log (H.265) or 4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ (H.265)
    • Non-cropped internal recording 4K video capture -- up to 119.88fps in 4:2:2 10-bit in Canon Log (H.265) or 4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ (H.265)
    • 4:2:2 10-bit in Canon Log or 4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ output via HDMI at 4K 59.94fps
    • Dual Pixel AF is available in all video modes at all resolutions and frame rates
    • 5 axis optical IBIS enabling Lens IS and camera IBIS to be combined
    • Dual card slots -- 1x CFexpress and 1x SD UHS-II

Richard Shepherd, Pro Product Marketing Senior Manager, said: "Last month we revealed specs confirming that we have achieved the 'impossible' with the EOS R5. Today, we go one step further in showing we are challenging the market and showcasing our unparalleled strength -- revealing the camera will offer video recording capabilities unseen in any other mirrorless camera.

"With its ability to record in cinema industry-standard formats and codecs, the EOS R5 is an ideal lead camera for many productions but also, given its compatibility with cinema workflows, the camera will shoot comfortably on high-end production sets."

Other EOS R5 specifications confirmed by Canon Inc. so far, in the camera's two previous development announcements (13th February and 13th March 2020) are:

    • 8K and 4K modes will support Canon's renowned Dual Pixel CMOS AF
    • The EOS R5 supports advanced animal AF -- recognising dogs, cats and birds
    • The EOS R5 offers a step-change in performance with an incredible 12fps using the mechanical shutter and the electronic shutter offering 20fps
    • The EOS R5 takes Canon's cutting-edge image stabilisation technology to the next level, by including a newly Canon-developed, in-camera optical image stabilisation system -- which works in combination with the lens stabilisation system
    • With content delivery just as important as image and video capture, the EOS R5 supports automatic transfer of image files from the device to the image.canon cloud platform
  • Canon R5 just appeared in the wrong place and in the wrong time.

later will be remembered like one of the first 8K cameras that sold in tiny amounts and had been delayed by 1-1.5 years in mass release.

  • Both the Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6 will not begin shipping until July at the earliest. It’s likely we’ll be getting low initial quantities of both cameras as well.

In reality cameras can be postponed till even October. If things will develope as they do now.

  • The Canon EOS R5 is listed at 10,499 Australian Dollars, which converts to approximate US$6254.

that's updated at newsshooter.com in the meanwhile.

"Now, one of our readers got a quotation from another camera shop in Australia and they quoted him $5808.08 AU. That works out to be around $3,750 USD."

  • @peaceonearth

Second one comes with coronavirus and first one is 100% clean :-)

The estimated price for the Canon R5 is 3800 euro, but they took it down fast. Romania, like Germany has a 19% VAT. The 5D mk4 was also launched at that price, this means 3499$ in US.

What is still available as info is the shipping date, which is written to be in July.

  • Contrary to big hype I hear dealers very worried about this camera.

As most professionals have issue with work now, sales of similar priced cameras tanked 5-7x times.

Dealers can push Canon to introduce up to 20% cashback starting from August or September already!

  • Canon EOS R6 and Canon EOS R5 announcement is now rumored to happen on July 2, 2020.

  • IMHO they will sell them like hot cakes.

I don't understand if the screen is fully articulated or not.

  • @LongJohnSIlver

    No, they won't.

Actually whole niche where R5 will be placed is tiny. It is not enough to even pay for all tooling and software development to make one camera (hence why R6 and another camera will try to use most parts).

  • I'm not saying it will be profitable, but I know several guys who are waiting for. Never underestimate the power of the Canon lock-in :)

"Canon R5 can be biggest failure in Canon history" - words of one of EU dealers.

Camera has nice features, include record profits to Canon, but issue is that pro video audience either already understand major issues and lack of money and orders, or remaining part will do it in August (as free money flow will stop in US and some EU countries).
