October announcement.
We see same approach as Canon - universal body.
AF is very good, but not perfect, like 98% of time it gets the shot. There is something that consistently throws it off - a lit display (LCD, LED) behind the subject it face locked onto. I think it has to do with contrast detection. I am dialing down AF TRACKING DEPTH and AF SUBJ. SWITCH. SENS. as I write this post. No idea if it will help, but it sounds about right. I haven't read the manual.
New firmware - 1.01
- Support for TLS 1.2 was added to coincide with Ustream (IBM Cloud Video)’s update from TLS 1.0/1.1 to TLS 1.2
- Improves the shooting stability of the steady shot in high frame rate shooting.
The new Sony's are step up. As expected, they bump up the quality a notch from the ax100 and the pro models based on the same chassis/sensor.
What's good: incredible detail with no moire. Many more customizations. Amazing lens. ND filter. It's a real camcorder with a zoom rocker.
Not so great: better in low light, but not like m4/3 or APSC. Shallow DOF but with the telephoto you can get the same effect. Not super wide.
So, the IQ is almost as good as a GH5. And the price is about the same as the GH5. So why buy one? Amazing lens in a compact camcorder body. But many would be happier with a GH5 for the same price. We'll see if that drives the price down.
