  • One of the things clearly in the comments is that the vast majority of posts are by stills shooters. They want Crisp resolution. So they definitely go for the larger pixels of the larger sensor, the A7s. An awful lot of video/cine shooters want clean images and high-res lenses, but don't want to feel like in every image they're studying the minutiae of the pores of a spider's "skin". As someone coming originally from a stills background, and still shooting a D3 with its "only" 12mp sensor ... that camera has some of the more awesome pixels and processor I've ever seen. In large prints it holds up quite nicely against a D600's much newer and about doubled number of pixels.

But for video editing ... I've worked with footage from both the wife's D600 and my GH3, and ... the GH3 is really my fav between the two. The GH4 footage has fewer of the annoyances of the GH3 (much better skin tones among other things). That's directly comparing a FF against an MFT ... so I don't find dPreview comparing an MFT against a FF as bizarre as some of the folk there do.

From what I've seen, the A7s has some nice features and capabilities. As has the GH4. They aren't necessarily the same best features. So one maybe more suited to one person than another. And both very useful tools as they are.

Like the old Nikon vs Canon. Um, yea, both. I've never owned Canon pro gear, had a bunch of Nikon. So what? Canon makes some good stuff too.

  • Results of a hiking trip last week. Shot with the Panasonic GH4 camera at 1080p, 60fps and 200mbps. Standard and Cine-V profile. Lenses used were the Panasonic 14-45mm, 45-175mm and Olympus 60mm macro lens. Edited with Edius 5.51 and encoded for the web using Windows Media Video 9.

  • That video is simply stunning, I think this is the type of stuff that the GH4 really shines with. All that razor sharp resolution is put to good use in a vid like that.

  • In terms of video features, the Sony Alpha 7S has one of the more comprehensive offerings on the market. However, it can't keep pace with the Panasonic GH4, which benefits from several more generations of development, and the feedback from professional video shooters.

  • Panasonic’s GH4 is one of the best ILCs you can get these days. Even if you don’t expect to shoot 4K, its 1080p video is stunning.

  • If anyone is interested in seeing my GH4 series part 2 here it is. That was a great review good job on that one. I don't think the GH4 does that well in low light but it's about what I am used to in my other micro cameras. Here is my GH4 series Part 2

  • Warm, late afternoon sun on Maui - Shot in Cine-D: -3, -5, -5, -2, +1 Highlights -2, graded in FCPX with ImpulZ LUT and other plugins...

  • There is one thing wrong in the above test.

You can adjust the viewfinder. Go to "setup" page 2 "monitor". There you can adjust the monitor. Then hold the GH4 (and GH3) to your eye and then the monitor setup will change to viewfinder setup. Makes sense, that you can only adjust the viewfinder when you look through it.

  • If we had a sixth star in our rating system, the GH4 would get it. More than a simple technological showpiece, it's a formidable, relentless tool that could serve any photographer or videographer with a sort of savage efficacy that appears to know no bounds. If the GH3 ever left any room for doubt, the GH4 does not: there's no serious competition in the SLR and hybrid worlds, especially when it comes to video. To find any better, you're looking at a five-digit budget. The GH4's only real shortcoming? Perhaps a lack of soul...

  • For US guys - seems to be in stock at http://www.adorama.com/IPCDMCGH4.html now.

For all other - we soon will get next batch.

  • Went to aquarium in the weekend to test out the GH4 I just received, already at firmware 1.1 when I got it. Focusing is pretty chalanging with those extra acrylics/glass.

Here is the video, two scene was shot in 1080p (by accident) and then upscale to 4k

  • I agree with mos7ies on the handle.

  • @ brandonmrsh Don't do it, bad idea... Instead, use a proper support from the bottom of the camera.

  • Do you guys think that the hot shoe is strong enough to have a handle on it? I was thinking about picking this up, but wasn't sure if it would work well - http://www.amazon.com/Smallrig-Cold-Handle-Rubber-Black/dp/B00E8CVM3K/ref=sr_1_25?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1405013316&sr=1-25&keywords=smallrig+shoe

  • So far, I have not been able to set AutoISO any higher than 6400 But perhaps a manual setting for Video could go higher
