GPS is present even in title. As for others, because for long time no one list them, they are standard. And present even in cheapest smartphones.
wonder whether any of these devices have more of the usual Android-supported hardware sensors than they are telling us about?
Sorry? All of them contain accelerometer, GPS, proximity sensor.

(Proximity Sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscope, Back-Illuminated sensor?)

MTK8389 based giant phone prices seems to be dropping, now 1280x800 IPS screen models are below $190
Btw, found quite cheap monster phone:
And another (with better screen):
Do you guys think this kind of device could be used as a field monitor device in the future (or an 720p EVF)?
All good monitors are already 720p :-) and use IPS panels :-) You don't need this tablets. Unfortunately Wi-Fi is still in low res and with big lags for all devices.
Do you guys think this kind of device could be used as a field monitor device in the future (or an 720p EVF)? I wonder what would it take to get the video signal into this? Wifi?
There are even bigger screens out there already too, they're tablets which function as phones too
Yep, you'll see plenty of tablets with 7" 720p screens on MTK quad core chips :-)
I just do not like this stuff personally.
To me this already seems pretty commonplace.
I was just considering about maybe getting this 6.5 inch screen phone.
There are even bigger screens out there already too, they're tablets which function as phones too. Personally I kinda see 7 inches as the dividing line, below that it is "phone with really big screen" but at 7 inches and above it is "tablet with phone functions".
iPhone and BlackBerry used to put the emphasize on usability of the phone, even with single hand. BB was a pleasure to type and iPhone was such a pleasure to use.
Samsung came with bigger screen which at least ran contrary to iPhone design considerations. BB was not a contender at this stage, pre-z10 era. The bigger screen is the antithesis to the handheld usability angle.
I have used all these phones and I miss BB keyboard, apple build and usability and Samsung screen (by being bigger, not necessarily better). The bigger screen won over markets, especially the Asian markets where the bigger screen actually helped these devices to be computer substitutes.
The Samsung note series tried to address another problem all the touch phone and tablets face, something which the computer replacement market craves. Ease of content creation vs access of data/content. The success of note series must have come as shock to apple as it ran contrary to the very design principles it so cherished. Apple's reluctance to increase the screen size is dictated by this concern. They see tablet vs phone as something
Where these two conflicting design philosophies took the phone market is only dictated by the size of the market. The polished and suave people like the iPhone. The rest who can put up with the inconvenience of handling a bigger phone got seduced by the bigger screen comforts. Apple having just one phone model did not help it either.
I personally have used the Galaxy s3 and believe it is one of the worst phone designs to succeed and it succeeded only on account of the screen size and Android OS.
I am sure an iPhone with a bigger screen must be a such huge decision for Apple. They may see Steve Jobs twisting in his grave with a design like that. I can fully sympathize with that. I hate the Samsung galaxy s3 with all my heart, but I would rather use it for browsing than the apple iPhone models of its time. Making calls? Apple please. Mailing? BB please. Internet? Samsung please.
With innovations being less lucrative at least in the short run, the rest of the industry may feel that Samsung is the new Apple. To imitate, that is. That will be the biggest irony because that is what made Samsung Mobile industry such a big hit in the first place. The hunter become the hunted.
Dunno, but the new Samhung Boombox is getting pretty big.
