    Short term it is simple.
    "Reliable and low risk" must be properly understood.
    It is low risk for big money. Why low risk?
    It is very big market, so easy to sell big amounts of bonds in short term (everyone things what he is smarter :-) ), and even if something happens you'll get at least some paper.
    If you keep money in bank you could get simply 0.
  • Fed going all in. Prop up the treasuries. Put a cap on the rate. Operation Twist #2 for next 2 years. Fed is still worrying about deflation in asset-backed securities... for the sake of rich people.

    Gold breaking out $1800. Commodity price going up. But they don't care about poor people.
