"Video shooting tops out at 4K at 15fps." http://www.popphoto.com/gear/2014/09/new-gear-panasonic-cm1-smartphone-1-inch-camera-sensor
What the heck was Panasonic thinking since all of the flagship smartphones today from Samsung, Sony , LG, Lenovo etc have 4K @ 30fps. Panasonic has more 4K cameras than anyone but they dropped the ball on the CM1.
Panasonic can't make any popular smartphone. And you wan them to do much more.
I will just get a 4K Samsung Note 4 or 4K LG G3 in January when my Verizon 2 year contract expires on my HTC Droid DNA .
The phone is beautiful and the camera has got photon wells that are 4x bigger than most other camera phones. Surely this will always be a niche segment, but we're talking about the perfect travel phone (with full photographic workflow tools included). I understand I would hardly justify 900€ for such a machine but then again I can't for the life of me justify 750€ for an iPhone 6. OTOH, this is the best best camera-phone in existence.
Sure, it also lacks stabilization and video modes leave you wanting, but the DOF control and low light ability are noteworthy for a phone (or a compact even). In my book, besides being an all around very light camera, this thing could also double as a B-cam. And we also don't know what firmware updates and/or custom mods can unravel (LG G2 as an example, was upgraded to 4K capture, 120fps and HDR Video - all that on a Snapdragon 800!).
I'm sure it won't sell like hotcakes, but it's got everything it needs to sell better than the Galaxy Camera.
that... is.... interesting?
I have the LG G2 hacked to record 4k. The image quality is VERY good, but you still have focus breathing (no manual focus in video) and the OIS becomes nuts with minimal movement - good for moving shots, and with a tripod the image stays perfect, but a handheld static shot is impossible because the OIS moves the lens with a minimal movement and the image becomes a mess.
Panasonic DMC-CM1 will be sold in UK, France and Germany. At least this is that Panasonic told :-)
It’s such a welcome concept. Instead, Panasonic seem as unsure about it as I do and the implementation is a mere toe in the water of the high end smartphone market. Up against massively stiff competition, the soulless design doesn’t do justice to the great sensor underneath, let alone compete with equivalently priced smartphones like the iPhone 6 Plus. Indeed flagship smartphones from other brands like Samsung cost far less and are much better smartphones!

After shooting with the CM1 in low light, it really is surprising how the slow shutter speeds and stabilisation catapult the iPhone 6 Plus into contention. The faster lens and much lower megapixel count also help. Whilst the CM1 is somewhat of a disappointment for dim light shooting it does hold its own during the day.

New firmware released. Jan. 13, 2015 Ver.11.0709
CM1 actually gets a lot of things right, both as a camera, which you'd expect from a camera company, and as a smartphone. Despite the glossy promotional photos, though, the CM1 isn't quite as premium in reality as you might expect, which is disappointing given the high cost of admission. It does much better as a dedicated camera, offering the most features and best image quality from any smartphone that we've tested thanks to a unique blend of large sensor, quality lens and years of photography know-how.

New firmware released, v12.0274
http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/CM1/index1.html
The Panasonic CM1 captures the best image detail of all smartphones in bright and low light, with well-balanced noise reduction and sharpening. Thanks to its extensive ISO range, it is capable of capturing images when other cameras have long given up and the high sensitivities also allow for the use of faster shutter speeds to freeze motion in low light, something that most smartphones can't do. Dynamic range is also noticeably better than smartphone cameras with smaller sensors.

US PR
Panasonic has announced that following a successful initial launch phase of the LUMIX DMC-CM1(CM1), the world’s only 1-inch sensor camera with an Android operating system and unlocked GSM smartphone functionality, it will now be available nationwide. The CM1 will be available at shop.Panasonic.com and LUMIX authorized retailers.
The LUMIX DMC-CM1 is unique in that despite its stylish slim profile allowing it to fit neatly into a pocket; a 1-inch high sensitivity MOS sensor and LEICA DC lens are able to produce high quality images that even rival those of a bulky DSLR.
The 1-inch 20 Megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor is normally only available in high spec compact cameras but because of the size, it offers outstanding low light performance with minimum noise levels – even at high ISO. The LUMIX DMC-CM1 produces crisp, highly dynamic images full of intricate details and accurately rendered soft focus. The award winning LUMIX CM1 will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat*.
Creative freedom at the twist of a ring
The ring on the lens barrel allows control over aperture, shutter speed, ISO and the selection of a Creative Control filter lets users enjoy camera operation similar to that of an interchangeable lens camera. Precision focusing is available with MF assist or Focus Peaking function while viewing the live image and a 4.7-inch large 6220k-dot ultra-high resolution rear monitor offers stunning high visibility during both recording and playing back images. To further enhance creative freedom, the LUMIX DMC-CM1 features RAW image recording.
4K all the way
In addition to 1920x1080 full HD video recording (30p), the LUMIX DMC-CM1 is capable of 3840 x 2160 4K video recording (15p), which is 4x higher resolution than conventional full HD. To take advantage of this 4K video recording capability, two special applications “4K Pre-Burst” and “4K Photo” can be found installed on the LUMIX DMC-CM1.
“4K Pre-Burst” lets users capture a fleeting photo opportunity such as fast-moving children or pets clearly by automatically recording approx. 45 frames right before/after the shutter release. Users can then choose the best picture to save.
The “4K PhotoCapture” allows cropping a still picture out of the recorded 4K video which has the same high resolution as an 8-megapixel still taken in the traditional way.
Instant sharing made quicker with LTE technology
Panasonic has pioneered integrating Wi-Fi into its cameras to meet the needs of users who are eager to share their photos and videos with friends and family, anytime, anywhere and the camera’s high speed LTE (Long Term Evolution) capability makes this faster than ever before.
The LUMIX CM1 will be available for $999.99.
Price in US will be $1000

Huh.
Movie capabilities are interesting but rather limited. Although the CM1 supports 4K video, it's limited to a frame resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and a recording rate of 15 fps. Full HD 1080p and HD 720p resolutions are supported, as well as VGA video and a square 1:1 format video, all at 30 fps.
