Thermonuclear scam can replace crypto currencies
    • A recent report from the Fusion Industry Association (FIA) makes it clear that funding for commercial fusion programs has accelerated significantly over the past 12 months. An increase in the flow of funds into the development of commercial fusion reactors directly signals an increase in investor confidence, which gives hope for a mature solution within the next 20 years.

According to an FIA survey of industry participants, in the last year by the time of the report, private fusion funding has increased by 139% to $2.83 billion. ”, said Andrew Holland, CEO of the Fusion Industry Association.

Of the surveyed companies in the sector, 93% are confident that fusion reactors will begin commercial electricity generation in the 2030s. A year ago, a smaller number of respondents shared this confidence - 83%. At the same time, 84% of respondents believe that a thermonuclear plant will demonstrate a sufficiently low cost and high efficiency to be considered commercially viable in the same time frame.

No one will tell you that this guys promised working reactors in 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s. And will go on and on and on.

COVID: New round coming, be prepared!
    • The World Health Organization held a regular meeting of the International Health Regulations emergency committee in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. The Committee expressed concern about the sharp decline in testing people for covid in many countries, which leads to a decrease in the coverage and quality of surveillance. Together with the conclusion of the committee, WHO published the recommendations of the director general of the organization. He calls for the use of all measures that have previously been developed to reduce the spread of the virus. For example, wearing well-fitting masks, social distancing, isolating while sick, washing hands frequently, avoiding closed spaces with poor ventilation, crowded places.

The WHO also recommends that countries prepare to rapidly scale up health and social measures in response to changes in the virus and population immunity, as COVID-19 can still overwhelm public health capacity and result in deaths. In addition, the large number of coronavirus patients is jeopardizing the ability of healthcare systems to treat other acute and chronic conditions.

    New Nikon price hikes
    • At least a dozen Z-mount lenses and accessories are getting a price increase here in the US. The most significant of those will be the f/2.8 zoom trio, each of which gets a US$100 increase. All the DX lenses get a US$10 to US$30 price increase. A few other lenses get US$10 to US$50 increases as well.

Nikon claims that the increases are necessary due to cost increases in component parts and some logistics (basically shipping for those parts between plants and getting products to subsidiaries in a timely fashion).

Europe and several other parts of the world had already seen price increases from Nikon, but the strength of the US dollar probably helped stall the need for them in North America. The irony, of course, is that many of the products showing price increases were just on an instant rebate program, which probably drove demand up, and then you need to build more and that costs more...

War: Lech Walesa - we must kill around 100 millions of bloody Russians
    • Former Polish President Lech Walesa has proposed cutting Russia's population in half, writes Le Figaro. In a conversation with journalists from a French newspaper, the Nobel Prize winner suggested that there are only two ways to tame Moscow: the first is a coup d'état with a complete change of power, and the second is a reduction in the population to 50 million people. Currently, 144 million people live in Russia.

Yes, he means genocide. Not waiting for it to happen naturally. Sound like copy of Hitler papers and ideas.

    Energy: Electricity issues in France
    • Electricity in France is now trading at a staggering €790 per megawatt hour (MWh) in October-December 2022 futures. This is two to three times more than in neighboring countries. At the moment, prices were close to 1500 euros per MWh. For comparison, in Germany the price is 500 euros. According to Nicholas Goldberg, an energy specialist at Colombus Consulting, this huge gap indicates that the French market is about to crash. Recall that before the COVID crisis, the price was about fifty euros per megawatt-hour.

      What will be the consequences?

Since April, the French government has been considering the issue of rationing electricity consumption for the most energy-intensive industries and companies. This has not happened for over 70 years. France very quickly returned to the “pre-nuclear” era, which will be a very heavy blow for French industry. It must be borne in mind that these are not short-term difficulties. The situation with a lack of electricity can persist for a very long time.

War: Chinese manufacturers to take 90% of Russian market
    • Due to the departure or decrease in activity in the Russian market due to events in Ukraine, well-known foreign electronics manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung, Dell, Chinese brands of phones, tablets, laptops and home appliances began to fill the domestic market.

In the first half of 2022, the Chinese smartphone brands Realme, Vivo, Mi, Tecno, Infinix, iTel and Nokia (Chinese holding HMD Global) became the leaders of the Russian market in terms of sales in physical terms, Marvel Distribution told Kommersant. In particular, Tecno, Infinix, Realme and Xiaomi increased their sales by more than 100%. Poco (a Xiaomi sub-brand) saw unit sales up 16% year-over-year, Nokia up over 40%. At the same time, Apple's market share declined by 14% and Samsung by 15%. In total, a little more than 10 million mobile phones were sold in Russia during the reporting period, which is 23% less than in the first half of 2021.

According to Ozon, unit sales of Tecno smartphones in the first half of the year grew more than 20 times, Doogee - five times, Digma - almost eight times. Yandex Market reported that in the first quarter, the share of sales of Chinese electronics brands doubled compared to last year.

War: Issues with hot water are coming in Germany
    • The German city of Hamburg will ration hot water for private homes and limit the maximum heating temperature in the event of a severe shortage of gas, an environmental senator said as Germany prepares for a possible disruption to Russian gas imports.

Last month, Germany moved into the second phase of its three-tier gas emergency plan after Russia cut supplies via the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, a step ahead of the government's fuel rationing.

The government is urging citizens and businesses to reduce their energy use and help the country fill its gas storage by winter, but cities are also considering measures if the gas runs out.

“Due to severe gas shortages, hot water can only be supplied at certain times of the day in case of emergency,” Hamburg environmental senator Jens Kerstan told Welt am Sonntag on Saturday.

Kerstan said the city may also consider lowering the overall maximum room temperature in the district heating network.

Households and critical institutions such as hospitals will have priority over industry in the third phase, according to the federal emergency plan, but this may not be everywhere in Hamburg for technical reasons.

“In the event of a gas shortage, it will not be possible everywhere to distinguish between commercial and private consumers,” Kerstan added.

As Germany rushes to find alternative gas routes and LNG supplies as a possibility, the senator warned that the temporary liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Hamburg will not be operational until the middle of next year.

“During July, we will find out if and at what location a temporary LNG terminal in Hamburg is possible,” he said.

Germany's first two temporary LNG terminals in Wilhelmshaven and Brunsbüttel are to be put into operation later this year, the newspaper said, citing the economy ministry.
