Ryan Coogler's Sinners has been the hottest movie of this year. It has crushed at the box office and is now coming to home video, where people expect it to crush as well. But I miss the old days, when it would come to DVD with a ton of special features you could go through to figure out how they made the film. Well, Fandango has been tweeting out some special features that come with the digital download. Among them is a deleted scene, where Delroy Lindo sings, and we get a beautiful split diopter shot. It's hard to be definitive here, because we have no statements on why, so I can only theorize, but I think a 4+ minute shot of just one character singing while the party rages on is powerful, but in a movie that is hurtling toward a vampire attach, it may slow down the plot. The phrase 'Kill your darlings' comes to mind here, because while this is so cool, I get why you may want to trim it. And it's not like the movie is suffering for it. Still, I love the artistry here from Coogler and his DP, and I love how brave they are also to make the cuts necessary in order to show audiences the film they wanted.
