Sony will add some new features to its compact cine cameras as 2024 progresses. The FX6 will be the first camera to get the firmware update in May this year, while the FX3 and FX30 will have to wait until September. The FX6 will also get more meaningful upgrades including 1.5x anamorphic de-squeeze, new integrated 3D LUT, and more. Different manufacturers employ different approaches regarding firmware updates and upgrades. Some are very generous about it, which may raise a question about why they would launch a product that requires so many fixes. Some offer paid upgrades or licensing of specific features, and some just leave their products be until the next generation of cameras addresses these issues. Sony usually took the latter path, offering few firmware updates compared with some of their competitors. Sony FX6 version 5.0 The FX6 will get a rather significant firmware update with Version 5.0. Coming in May 2024 it will include: 1.5x de-squeeze function for anamorphic lenses. Integrated high-quality 3D LUT processes. This should mirror the VENICE cinema camera to allow for more accurate color alignment and overall post-processing. Monitor & Control App v2.0 features (eg. Waveform, False color). Breathing Compensation Expansion: More lenses will be supported including the FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS and the FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lenses.
