The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards have officially opened entries for their 2026 edition, inviting emerging filmmakers from around the globe to submit their work for free. Covering five categories and offering winners an immersive industry experience in Los Angeles, the program continues to spotlight the next generation of creative voices. The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards celebrate independent filmmakers shaping the cinematic landscape of tomorrow. Now in its fourth edition (check out the former ones here), the competition welcomes entries until December 16, 2025, across five categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation, Student, and Future Format. Selected finalists will be flown to Los Angeles to attend the awards ceremony and participate in a bespoke four-day program at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City. This program includes workshops with Sony Pictures executives, masterclasses, panel discussions, studio tours, screenings, and Q&A sessions. Animation: 2–20 minutes, minimum 75% animated. Student: 5–20 minutes, open to students enrolled in higher education film courses; shortlists are selected by continent. Future Format: 2–5 minutes, designed for vertical (9:16) viewing, with creativity in vertical storytelling emphasized.
