September 2020 CIPA numbers

CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan) published their camera production data for September, 2020 (orange: 2020, black: 2019, blue: 2018, click for larger view): September 2020 CIPA numbers DSLR units grew by almost 68,000 units as compared to August. Mirrorless units grew by almost 140,000 units. Best month of 2020 so far in every category except for DSLR shipped value, which implies that the DSLR units now shipping are lower priced than units shipped earlier in the year. Cumulative Mirrorless shipped value is now more than double DSLR shipped value. We tend to ignore compacts, but compacts shipped value was equal to DSLR shipped value in September (although not cumulatively). More compacts have been shipped than DSLRs and Mirrorless combined. At current pace, total ILC bodies in 2020 will be between 4.31 and 4.5 million units. It was 8.46 million in 2019, 10.76 million in 2018 and 11.68 million in 2017.
