James Gunn Says Martin Scorsese Used Marvel Controversy to Promote His Film

Filmmaker James Gunn recently responded to the comments made by Martin Scorsese a few years back calling out superhero films. If you don't remember, a while back Martin Scorsese made comments calling Marvel and superhero films "not cinema" and more like "amusement park rides." The legendary filmmaker received a ton of backlash for his remarks but was also praised by those who agree with him. Recently, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad director, James Gunn, was asked about the comments. On the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Gunn said, “So he just kept coming out against Marvel so that he could get press for his movie. He’s creating his movie in the shadow of the Marvel films, and so he uses that to get attention for something he wasn’t getting as much attention as he wanted for it.” It feels as though Gunn thinks Scorcese used this drama as an opportunity to get attention.
