One of the most talked about movies at this year's Sundance was Sunfish (& Other Stories from Green Lake. It was a very emotional movie comprised of vignettes that had just an incredible score. The man behind the music is composer Brian Steckler. Aside from composing the music for the movie, he also played all the guitars and piano for it. The original score soundtrack will be released on streaming platforms on January 10. Steckler's career has allowed him to score films for Tubi Originals, Lifetime films, and indie documentaries. Additionally, he was the audio producer/engineer and the voice of “Er” for the Clio-winning Super Bowl commercial Budweiser “Frogs.”I was excited to sit down with him to talk about Sunfish and his work in music. Let's dive into the interview. NO FILM SCHOOL: The score for Sunfish has been described as minimalist, using acoustic strings and piano. Can you walk us through the initial conversation with the director about the tone and style of the music? What was the vision for the score, and how did you approach bringing that to life?Brian Steckler: It was a pleasure working with Sierra because she had a clear vision of the tone and emotion of her film.
