DPReview, one of the leading online platforms focused on digital photography technology and news, has just announced that they are changing hands and are now saved thanks to their acquisition by Gear Patrol. DPReview’s entire editorial, tech, and business team will continue moving forward with the website. Back in March 2023, DPReview announced that they were closing. This sad news surprised us all, as DPReview has been online for more than 25 years. Without any doubt, if you’re interested in digital photography, this pioneering website is one of the most extensive resources available online for free. DPReview was supposed not to be updated after April 10th. Still, the team surprisingly kept going, even if some members like Chris and Jordan, who hosted the DPR YouTube channel, joined PetaPixel. Gear Patrol is “an award-winning publisher and content studio (…) with its unique blend of product storytelling and service-centric journalism across its core categories of outdoors, tech, watches, motoring, home, and style.” As you can tell, DPReview is much more photography-centric, so both companies have different audiences.
