Christopher Nolan movies are events you have to experience on the biggest screen possible, preferably IMAX if you can. And now, you might have to see them on that size screen, because his new movie, The Odyssey, is going to be the first ever to exclusively shoot in the film format.IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond spoke at Cannes and said, “Chris called me up and said If you can figure out how to solve the problems, I will make [“Odyssey”] 100 percent in IMAX. And that’s what we’re doing,” Gelfond continued, “He forced us to rethink that side of our business, our film recorders, our film cameras.”This is massive news, not just because of the giant film format, but because it's an expensive feat that is going to match the epic quality of the story to the screen. Now, IMAX makes digital cameras, which were used on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but no one has ever used their film cameras for an entire feature. The traditional film cameras take 70mm and are very, very large. Those cameras are also notoriously loud ot have on set. They can be complicated to use and clunky to take around. But Nolan is not new to the IMAX world. He has used these cameras on many of his films, especially on Oppenheimer.
