Following up on the news of Nikon being forced to quickly release a firmware update a day after a previous firmware update caused some reported issues with the Nikon Z8 not being able to work with certain 3rd party lenses, Canon is reportedly pulling some firmware updates off of the company’s Canon Japan site after they were possibly causing some issues as well.Here’s what we know so far about these short-lived firmware updates for the Canon EOS R1 and the Canon R5 Mark II.Canon Japan Firmware Updates PulledFrom reports online, last week Canon released a new firmware update (version 1.1.0) for the R1 and R5 Mark II cameras that was initially available on Canon Japan’s website, but was then shortly taken down. A Service Notice was put in place of the firmware updates that read: “Unfortunately, the latest firmware version 1.1.0 for the EOS R1 / EOS R5 Mark II is temporarily unavailable as Canon has determined that playback may not be possible on the camera or a PC when users are shooting videos with pre-recording settings using a card larger than 2TB.” There was also a warning to users not to update their cameras if they had already downloaded said update.What to Expect NextWhile this is likely not the biggest news in the world since it was a firmware update that was only available for a short amount of time and only in one market, it does appear that it was significant enough for Canon to act quickly to...
