hijacking a bit...I just spent about a month trying to get some....any good piano to work on windows 10. My macs are all getting alittle long in the tooth. But tried as I might, my windows 10 acer nitro couldn't pull it's weight, even being easily bested by a 15 year old swivel-neck ppc imac. I've tried standalone pianoteq , addictive keys, ni kontakt player, and more....sforzando was the best...and it's free. Hosting in a daw was alittle better but nothing compared to garageband. I'll be doing some testing on ipad but I'm waiting for this ....https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PlugKey--korg-plugkey....which I've read is how to put latency to rest on the ipad. I love windows for video, but for music, mac handslaps windows down imho. Anyone disagree, I'd love to hear about their way. ps....yes, I've got asio4all installed and adjust it to it's optimum in the hosting programs.

Total Composure Free
The Total Composure orchestra (TCO) is a full orchestral sample library created using only samples that are in the public domain. Total Composure is the first to offer such a library exclusively for the Kontakt format; making use of Kontakt's scripting capabilities to greatly enhance the playability, realism, and functionality of these public domain samples.
The scripting aims to provide similar functionality across the different instrument groups, whatever the instrument; while more specific settings play to the strength of each instrument.
Most of the instruments only contain one set of samples per articulation, and some only have one recorded dynamic layer – this is one of the many limitations we have found with using public domain samples. We have overcome these issues using a variety of physical modelling techniques that enhance the audio material. Using dynamic filters and intelligent repetition scripting we have removed the limitation of single dynamic recordings and solitary sample sets.

@Vitaliy, so far great sounds from Samplemodeling. Perfect for Jazz and all kinds of music except some classsic music I think. Here an example:

Should we start a thread mentioning good session players?
You can do it any time.
Of course they'll be out of reach for 99% of members, but who knows :-)
A few choices for solo violin, all announced/released within the last few months (and one announced today).
Adagio from Impact Soundworks (mentioned earlier for the ensembles) http://8dio.com/?btp_product=adagio-violins-vol-1
Spitfire Audio Solo Strings http://www.spitfireaudio.com/spitfire-solo-strings.html
Quantum Leap Solo Violin http://www.soundsonline.com/QL-Solo-Violin
And less recently, both VSL and LASS offer solo string libraries individually (that area also included in their larger libraries) as does Kirk Hunter. And even less recently, there is Big Fish's London Solo Strings.
There are solo strings included in EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra, and while they are expressive, they are not as deeply sampled as the others mentioned here.
For solo instruments, it's often worth weighing whether you'd prefer to spend money on a getting a good solo performer because it typically takes a huge number of man hours to "approximate" the sound of a good solo part.
Should we start a thread mentioning good session players? If so, I'd mention Nimrod Nol (Israel) and Jeff Edward Ball (USA) for solo violin.
SO MANY CHOICES... AARRGH!
I have some public domain foxtrot sheet music. Can someone please recommend what I would need to generate a decent sounding track with it ? I used Finale Notepad for a music course at uni. And thats all I know. I do remember that the composition sounded artificial and midi-like.
So far I have been advised Finale or Sibelius coupled with Garritan personal orchestra. Are there better/cheaper options ?? Cheers!
