I'm building a small one made from the motors and controllers from old Inkjet printers. Lots of great parts. Everything controlled by an arduino.Lots of parts can be recycled.

I shot this report with my GH2 last year before VK hacked it, so with the stock firmware. It's about 3D printers, Fab Labs in France and the coming revolution of open source objects. It's called "Fabuleux Labos", lasts 3' and has english subtittle. Thank you Vitaliy.

Damn, a month ago I read an article on Wired.com talking about a lot of affordible 3d printing and other home maker projects like a mini kiln and I can't find it again.

EDIT: Found it. http://www.wired.com/design/2012/05/5-must-have-shop-tools/ Wasn't so much affordable as a wish list of must have items for the modern cool shop.

I have a zcorp 402 printer. I got it used for 2,000. It has an 8"x10"x10" build box. It is powder based and uses liquid inkjets to build its layers. There is a community for it like this one that has reduced it's cost for raw materials dramatically, from$800 for powder, $500 for liquid (from the manufacturer) to now a total of $35. The machine I got didn't work when I got it but with some tlc it came back to life. I am not saying this is the solution to everyone's problems but just that it is another alternative out there if you are looking into 3D Fab. I have also sent stuff to Sculpteo in France and had excellent results and turn around time for fine/delicate designs. The machine that Vitaliy posted in the top looks like things are going in a great direction for people that can utilize that type of machine.

Here is a good Yahoo group for anybody that is interested in DIY 3D printers.

I was looking at CNC machines. Looks like a tossup between Nomad 883 CNC Mill and Printrbot’s new CNC machine. Would be great to get a comparison with CNC 3020T and CNC 3040T
