Telegram userbase is growing up fast last weeks
  • The new policy of the WhatsApp service, which is owned by Facebook, has led to an acceleration of the mass transition of users to Telegram. This statement was made by the founder of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov.

According to him, millions of people were outraged by the latest changes in the WhatsApp user agreement, according to which customers are required to transfer personal data to the Facebook advertising system, including most sensitive data and indexed archives of your private talks.

It is not surprising that the exodus of users from WhatsApp to Telegram, which has been going on for several years, has accelerated.

Facebook even made special bots last month to spread false information about Telegram.

Make sure to join Telegram now, and join PV channel on it! Do not fall for total corporate censorship of Facebook as it is ready to spread it to your private talks soon!

  • The Telegram messenger became the second most downloaded app in the United States after Twitter permanently blocked the account of incumbent President Donald Trump, and Apple and Google removed the popular social network Parler from app stores. This was reported by The Daily Telegraph.

  • Right, lets all download Telegram so we can listen to Trump.

  • @zcream

Lets all download Telegram so we can listen to Trump.

And let us thank patriotic US elites for forcing millions of US users into Mordor made messenger.

Btw same guys still did not ban Tiktok despite orders.

  • @MikeLinn which messenger? Signal is open source

  • @zcream

Telegram has mostly Russian developers and Russian owner :-)

  • Which run the infrastructure of this closed-source messenger, that allows millions of people to upload large files and stream videos complety for free. Thanks god, there are such selfless people around in mordor..

  • lol, of course mordor has such a "selfless" people!!!! no interest behind at all, not even the goverment! impressive aint? Lets join in mass, so the can benefit...ehem!..coff coff.. ehmm..so they can help people with their kindness.

  • @endotoxic

no interest behind at all, not even the goverment! impressive aint?

We have interests of freedom of speech and democracy, we need to catch the fallen flag and carry it with dignity.

    Lot of laughs here :-)

But it reality, part of our elite blocked telegram while another part used it. Ended up in silent unblocking and most active guys fired.

  • Telegram surpassed 500 (https://t.me/durov/147) million active users.

In the past 72 hours alone, more than 25 million new users from around the world joined Telegram.

  • Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has registered in Telegram and BIP messengers, the presidential administration said.

"Our president @RTErdogan is now in BIP and Telegram," the message says.

The administration added that on Tuesday Erdogan also launched his own channel on Telegram.

    Very bad news for US.

Nice picture, yet I believe flag already to way muddy to be carried, will drop dirt on your head. Guess we will need a new one.

How should this be understood? Active in what? tlgrm dev??

Signal still seems to be the smallest evil to me, while still beeing useable for the masses, but I wonder why no one mentions XMPP and Matrix, two decentralized ways for chat (and voice comm), that do not require to you to reveal your mobile phone number. (Which is an important detail, as its much more about meta than content today...) OTR is around since ages and OMEMO is also well proven.

Last but not least Mumble is a (pretty) secure way for group voice comm, its not e2e (which is hard to do low latency on more than 2 parties anyways) but can be hosted by yourself, and thus technically allows for secure crypto. As long as you can trust the server. Afaik.... so If I am wrong, please teach me better.

I am quite aware of the hurdles, that will stop 99% of the people trying to join this kind of stuff.. yet, I would love to meet the other % in there.

    ;-)

  • How should this be understood?

People who executed orders of elite with too much enthusiasm had been fired :-)

We have elite generally understanding that they need informational independence, as they understand how market works. But we also have part of elite who just want to spread the legs and provide the hole, had been such for hundreds of years.

From one of my recent posts:

When capital is placed at the forefront of social organization, money begins to determine everything. Therefore, for capital, the ideal regime for organizing society will be such when everything (absolutely everything) is turned into a market. Including politics.

If politics is arranged like a market - with bargaining, free competition, professional political products and services (politicians, political strategists, mass media, PR, elections, etc.) - then in such a market the one who is able to pay the most wins. That is, the one who can buy specialists, technologies and form the necessary public opinion. That is, capital.

In such a mode of operation, the real, irreplaceable dictator in the form of specific persons or groups is always in the shadows. And in the arena of the political circus, professional political clowns are constantly changing, carrying out orders behind the scenes. Wasted and discredited actors are periodically thrown into the trash and replaced by new, even more fun characters. The electorate is happy. Capital as well.

Therefore, Freedom'n'Democracy ™ as the largest and most powerful capital, in an ultimatum order requires all other countries to strictly adhere to democratic procedures. In this case, he can freely enter any country, establish (buy) the required political regime and freely dictate his will. And all this is imperceptible, without unnecessary noise, under the guise of a democratic expression of the will of the people.

Those who refuse to turn their political system into a democratic market must be beaten and forced to freedom. To do this, Freedom'n'Democracy ™ has military bases around the world and military expenditures that exceed those of all other countries combined.

Why can't everyone in the world hold "fair elections" and be more democratic than the Pope?

If a country wants to pursue an independent policy, it simply cannot afford to host an open democratic market in which it cannot compete with the capitals of the world hegemon.

In this case, there are only two outputs:

    1. Give up independence. Completely lie under the fincap and resignedly accept all imposed decisions, counting on the mercy of the new owner.
    2. Abandon Democracy ™. Establish a political dictatorship with an irreplaceable political elite, covering all this with imitation of free elections.

This is why all countries who do not lick ass of leading capitalist countries are declared as bad and totalitarian. And leading countries always push them to change their choice and select option number one.

    As for Signal

Signal still seems to be the smallest evil to me

It has horrible desktop client, code quality is bad, usability is subpar if you compare it all to Telegram.

Also one thing I do not understand is why all tech guys constantly refer to badly made niche products (that have some one or two internal functions made right) as solutions for masses.

For now Telegram is best quality chat client for desktop and tablets, and has best code quality with developers being managed proper way and result way better than all major chat clients.

  • Niche observations

80% of WhatsApp contacts this week asked about Telegram and after trying Telegram client for few days most common comment had been - "Is it really possible to make things so nice and smooth and.. just working?"

Btw, most worried now are the people who had been most vivid BLM and democrat supporters :-) It seems they feel where all is going with their gut.

  • telegram doesn't have end-to-end encryption in standard chat. Everything is stored on their servers. Maybe only temporarily but who knows. Having Russian owners doesn't give me a good feeling neither. Thanks but no thanks. your turn, Vitaliy :)

  • @peaceonearth

Having Russian owners doesn't give me a good feeling neither.

You mean that Mordor KGB will be hunting you down for discussion of recent porn videos? :-)

telegram doesn't have end-to-end encryption in standard chat. Everything is stored on their servers.

This is whole point, as you can login at any device and have all chats available. It is usability thing as user expect such behavior now. Techno geeks can not like it much, but it is how it is.

For any real serious talks use secure chats or custom things.

Btw some organizations use usual messengers with special custom software that encrypts and decrypts text on the fly, so if you gain access to messenger all you will find is lot of "0x6354BA72635" stuff.

For any small or medium organization custom solution is most secure - as it require big real expenses to explore and understand. While Signal and such always have special holes for such situations for right people.

  • But @peaceonearth, Russians love you, they want your soul, e’ahem..sorry my throat hurts, they want to help you thrive in this world. Data in servers stored ? What are you talking about ? Servers ? What’s that? Telegram put messages on papes by hand and those notes aré stored in a bank with seven locks and a dwarf with black security clothing and it’s only shared when an emergency is due!

  • @endotoxic Time to choose your master as it seems.. G

@Vitaly Your answer did not clarify my question. It even seems quite a bit foggy to me. Might be just my personal view, but sorry, could you please be more exact in your answer if possible? Why should everybody trust into an client - server based encryption, where the trust into the server can not be garanteed at all? (Since its neither open source, nor is the host itself known to anybody.) When other, maybe a bit less feature rich ways to chat and talk in a secure manner are available, that work as well for the comm itself?

  • @Meierhans

Why should everybody trust into an client - server based encryption, where the trust into the server can not be garanteed at all? (Since its neither open source, nor is the host itself known to anybody.)

Let me tell you as guy who had some relation to this.

All this "open source" and "end to and encryption" as it is presented now in things like Signal is bullshit (to enduser like you). You can't check it and you can't check that it suddenly changed or encryption turned off. For simple ordinary user it can be even worse. As from hands of guys who sell aggregate data and provide access to government you can go right into hands of guys who sell everything almost each day.

Big thing that all this libertarian guys missing is that they want to build the nice peaceful hut right int he middle of war field. I mean that no one will tolerate this as soon as it will become really popular.

So, it is certainly good idea to advance towards P2P messenger with end to end encryption that is not using AES and similar protocols contrary to current solutions. But all this math is not enough, you also need usability, speed and many more things.

ALso remember - you will be thrown out from both mobile app stores almost instantly.

  • So your claim is: As Signal secure e2e encryption could be taken away any day, why not just choose a messenger that does come with this feature right from the start? (Or claims to come with it, but you do not know if its real or not..)

About the Signal protocol, sure you can check: https://community.signalusers.org/t/wiki-overview-of-third-party-security-audits/13243

Anyhow, I agree that relying onto a centralized messenger like Signal - may it be open source or not - may not be a good idea long term. But at least itm is seems way more secure to me than tlgrm, or even whatsapp, closed source messengers hostet by unknown/badly known party. In case Signal would suddenly change encryption or deliver a client that does so secretly, this would be reported by the community quite soon.

While I am quite sure you will soon tell me reasons why he is not trustworthy as well.. yet this still counts a bit for me: https://twitter.com/snowden/status/661313394906161152?lang=de

If it was just about me: I hate any kind of messenger that asks for my phone number... WHY?? Yet I prefer to contact those who are less into tech via Signal - than via whatapp (wurgs..), tlgrm or even plain phone.

https://conversations.im/omemo/audit.pdf Do you see anything that makes you believe this is not secure?( Asking seriously.)

Anyhow, maybe nuff is said bout this on this channel? Who knows..

    I propose: 5TƐGAN0 FTW!

No, I told you that Signal and alike give you false sense of "safety". But it is totally false.

About the Signal protocol, sure you can check: https://community.signalusers.org/t/wiki-overview-of-third-party-security-audits/13243

You can, as well as telegram protocol.

But this guys just can make custom silent client update and... hoopla and specially for you everything will go directly to proper place.

You miss my points. As you try to go into trap that capitalist made for you.

And lot of nice developers with various libertarian attitude are quite stupid as I already told, they want to build something stable and usable in the middle of warfire. One rocket or cannon and all will be gone. You already saw it happening around without any masks anymore.

If it was just about me: I hate any kind of messenger that asks for my phone number... WHY?? Yet I prefer to contact those who are less into tech via Signal - than via whatapp (wurgs..), tlgrm or even plain phone.

Let me tell you seriously. If you are not young girl or salesman, you need to look for desktop client as desktop is where major talks happen in office or during remote work or such. And Signal don't have anything really usable, contrary to simple fast and best in the industry Telegram app.

  • Or use all 3 for different things. It's hard to crack into all 3 at the same time.

  • Signal is back after an outage that lasted more than 24 hours

    Nice stability

I heard that Signal backend quality is most horrible in the industry, requiring around 4-5 times of hardware to do same things as other messangers can do with fraction of it.

  • The developers of telegram sit in Berlin , I thing. That is why I use it here in Germany.
And to follow pw of course.
