Z-CAM is so lazy that they violated the famous RED patent and will pay for it soon
  • The ZRAW actually stores RAW directly from Bayer sensor and not YUV as claimed (conversion happens in computer software, camera stores real linear raw). It means that they actually store real RAW on Z-CAM E2!

    It is staggering developers error that can cause big money losses for company that already have main LSI unavailable for all their cameras (in most countries most popular models are out of stock now)

    Translation of post made by @storyboardcreativity

    1. The ZRAW actually stores RAW values in Bayer form. It means that they actually store real RAW and DNG on Z-CAM E2!
    2. ZRAW stores LINEAR VALUES. This means that there are NO Z-LOG2s, as the camera says, kindly disabling the ability to change the space when shooting in ZRAW. This is thereal linear color - you will not need to do any transformations before setting the white balance and other joys. It is great.
    3. 12 bits are used to store color values in ZRAW. I can't say anything about the reliability of this information, but it looks like everything converges, I don't see any problems. In addition, ZRAW supports bit rates from 8 to 16, which hints at the possibility of using this codec in other modes.
    4. The real range of values from the sensor is slightly lower than the full set of colors for a 12-bit component (the number of combinations for a 12-bit component is 2 to the 12th power, that is, 4096 color levels). In fact, around 200 we have so-called "black level", which is subtracted from all numbers in the Bayer scheme, after which the remaining values are expanded to 12 bits.
    5. WHY ADVERTISE 12-BIT RAW RECORDING ON ATOMOS NINJA V IF YOU HAVE ZRAW that stores same exact 12-BIT raw? AND WHY only DNxHR, YUV, H.265 AND EXR BE EXPORTED FROM ZRAW VIDEOSUITE IF YOU HAVE A REAL RAW STORED IN ZRAW ??
    6. ZRAW footage is quite close to real RAW - all debayering, noise reduction, etc. is done by the ZRAW VideoSuite application. This is also just great, because now, when I make the converter to DNG, you will have the opportunity to independently work with the image, including the choice of algorithms for debayering, noise reduction and other things.
    7. However, something interesting follows from the previous point. As I said, ZRAW stores a full RAW, albeit compressed (Huffman and Golomb). This means that the original information about YUV is not correct. In the code, they called the channels that way, indeed, but the channels themselves, as it turned out, store the usual RGB CFA Bayer. This means that there is no trace of any "partial debayer" (which is declared on the official website) in the camera, all debayering is performed on the computer. Again, a specialist friend told me that no one performs anything on the camera, including BlackMagic cameras (although they tell tales about partial debayering).

  • A lot of Zcam still available in UK and France.

    It’s not a professional camera, too much bug and Zlog is “bizarre”... and:

    • slow hdmi out
    • error during recording with SSD
    • cheap and buggy audio
    • buggy 50htz pal mode (abnormal flickering compared to others cameras)
    • f**king fan boys

    But a very nice colors and roll off rendering.

  • .0.98 update today

    Z cam team worked hard !

    • Prores in all resolution and all frame rate
    • SSD recording improvement
    • Prores proxy in separate files
    • 5k Prores for F6
    • UVC bug fixes
    • other bug fixes

    Good job.

  • So is z cam on last legs ??

  • @sammy

    So is z cam on last legs ??

    Z-CAM is on its knees with some fanboys fiercely sucking their dick trying to help :-).

  • Why your way of working should have changed since the Zcam E1 ( Meitu BF1 )

    --> little white speck on the top of chicken shit, that little white speck is chicken shit too

    The fake development with kickstarter financing was a successful bluff ... to get money

    Because the ZCAM had been paid for the development of the Meitu BF1 Cam when kinson low was still true for meitu as manager,

    Meitu stopped the project ... ... Kinson went go from Meitu .........

    And suddenly the kickstarter campaign from " Shenzhen ImagineVision Technology" , appeared .....with Kinson low as Master of Marketing

    Named ZCAM E1... and suddenly an ugly black box with an optically diffrent from great Meitu BF1 camera

    the C1 they even wanted to go back to the original Meitu sensor ..... which is true but too expensive .....

    also appeared the new chipset that is built into the E2 ...... afterwards the E1 died

    Google -->Meitu BF1 check the Techspec ...diffrent the E1 PANASONIC Sensor with a Lower Price !!!

    --> Sensor SONY IMX159 with 16 Megapixel

    --> Prozessor Ambarella A9 ISO max 128000

    --> 83 Millimeter x 66.9 Millimeter x 51.9 Millimeter 228 Gramm

    --> 4K @ 30fps, 1080P @ 30fps/60fps, 720P @ 120fps e 480P @ 30fps

    2017 presentation The Zcam C1 have the same chipset and sensor from --> Meitu BF1 this projekt stop , E2 follow 10 month later
