What do we know about the novel coronavirus?

  • @apefos...watch contagion. It's pretty accurate...maybe a roadmap.

  • France will start nationalizing important capitalist corporations. People will pay for all their debt burden, btw.

    Ruling class is repeating itself.

  • One interesting observation

This virus is being presented as in good film.

    • Proper exposition of China, careful conclusion and shift attention to next target.
    • EU presentation and overview
    • Focus and proper exposition on Italy
    • Keeping tension
    • Focus slowly move to US as main hero of the film, Italy and EU it being kept, but attention being reduced
    • Tracking development daily
  • A medical device manufacturer has threatened to sue a group of volunteers in Italy that 3D printed a valve used for life-saving coronavirus treatments. The valve typically costs about $11,000 from the medical device manufacturer, but the volunteers were able to print replicas for about $1 (via Techdirt).

A hospital in Italy was in need of the valves after running out while treating patients for COVID-19. The hospital’s usual supplier said they could not make the valves in time to treat the patients, according to Metro. That launched a search for a way to 3D print a replica part, and Cristian Fracassi and Alessandro Ramaioli, who work at Italian startup Isinnova, offered their company’s printer for the job, reports Business Insider.

However, when the pair asked the manufacturer of the valves for blueprints they could use to print replicas, the company declined and threatened to sue for patent infringement, according to Business Insider Italia. Fracassi and Ramaioli moved ahead anyway by measuring the valves and 3D printing three different versions of them.

  • The Netherlands will aim to develop immunity to coronavirus among its population by allowing large numbers to contract the illness at a controlled pace, prime minister Mark Rutte announced in a national address on Monday.

“The reality is that in the near future a large part of the Dutch population will be infected with the virus,” Mr Rutte said. “We can slow down the spread of the virus while building controlled group immunity.”

“It can take months or even longer to build group immunity, and during that time we need to shield people at greater risk as much as possible.”

The idea of developing group immunity to coronavirus, also known as Covid-19, is controversial. It has been supported by Sweden’s state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell and Britain’s chief scientific adviser Patrick Vallance. But the World Health Organisation (WHO) has questioned its basis in evidence.

As Louis Rossman like to say about corporations ripoff - "it is not my business, they have the right to set any price they like, just do not buy them" :-)

However, when the pair asked the manufacturer of the valves for blueprints they could use to print replicas, the company declined and threatened to sue for patent infringement, according to Business Insider Italia.

This is why capitalists deserve much harsher treatment than coronavirus.

  • @jleo

How exactly group immunity work (at low level)? Using invincible fields?

Or it is just nice capitalists invention made to not tell you how fucked up medical system is.

  • Israel and Germany started officially tracked all normal users in realtime and storing locations indefinitely (before it was all very silent and unofficial and on much smaller scale).

  • "Group immunity" strategy might be a new type of death camp. Government and Corporations will save a lot of money, not paying out pensions and medical benefits. And good news, dead people can no longer sneeze and spread COVID-19! :)

  • In Mordor, Moscow integrated cameras system accidently showed that they already track in realtime specific people (using face and walk recognition). Before they constantly told that it is not such, but due to coronavirus they reported that they added all people faces from isolation group to the system. And later tracked 200 of them as ones who break the rules.

  • Situation with face masks in Mordor. Total production is 1.5 millions per day (145 millions require around 500 millions masks per day, so it is 0,3% of required masks), some of them are still exported.

All else go into medical and government organizations. Last week it is exactly 0 masks available to usual people. Lot of resellers trying to sell old stock or stock from governmental system with 50x-500x of usual price.

Now you know why "masks are not effective" and "you don't need them". In some countries 100% masks had been manufactured in China (local guys only packed some of them and placed badge and hiked price 3-5x) - they also tell you how masks are not efficient.

No plans to increase masks production are present now, as private businesses who make them are happy and do not need much more profits (as already work 24 hours each day).

  • Mordor is most at risk out of countries outside the West. Highest old population as well as cold weather. I got the first case on the island where I live - a guy tested positive at the church down the street.

  • @zcream

Mordor has one advantage (from resistance to virus side only :-) ) - all population live last 30 years in total natural selection mode. So, do not worry so much.

  • No where on planet earth, at no time is any homo sapiens immune from this virus. No one knows if immunity after cure is real or long lasting. People have had it twice. Therefore the concept of herd immunity is a farce. No one knows if a safe vaccine can be developed. Therefore there is only avoidance and treatment. Any other solutions at this juncture are hypothetical. So the only possible path is ubiquitous testing and efficacious treatments. We never needed an over the counter solution to a fatal disease so much. Now we do.

  • @kurth so the way the govs are taking it looks like they dont plan to reach it either. Thing is maybe with epidemiological effort and event a short imunisation vacine thing can become endemic and "controled". You know after half the pension granies and granpas in the world are gone.

They goin spanish flu on this, just ler it take the toll and hope it fade away, maybe make some cash with vaccines thing, maybe there will be world war before that. Lots of states will enter civil disorder etc. Some social democratic nationalizations to save capital guys. Some places have ways to enter revolution, lots of places dont that background effectively and it will be a lot of social degradation before that.

Maybe in some time covid will lose spot in the highlights to bullets and famine.

    Just like the Flu.

  • @RoadsidePicnic....my philosophy on everything is...fuxk gobiernos..todos de ellos. All governments are organisms that only think about their own survival. We as individuals are responsible to ourselves and our loved ones. And we have at least learned of one cheap and widely available treatment that most probably mitigates the grave effects of this virus. Go out and buy some..today. I ask everybody here to research everything they can on chloroquine and hydoxichloroquine. I'm still looking into dosage. What is the prophyllactic dosage for prevention. I think it's 200mg a week...one tablet. But I'm not absolutely certain. So we might have solved half of the dilemma. Cheap and widely available test kits will be coming...thanks to greedy capitalist bastards. What's amazing is no one is really talking about chloroquine as prevention.

  • White House now intends to send two $1,000 checks to adult Americans, in addition to the $300 billion in 'emergency liquidity' (ie zero-interest loans) it's also promising.

  • @kurth

Can tell you optimistic news from Mordor.

People started buying Hydoxichloroquine (smart ones for now).

  • @Vitaliy....Espana's on the roll as well. Bought the last box in my town this morning. Words out. Problem could obviously be the supply will dryout. https://www.jornada.com.mx/2020/03/18/politica/011n2pol ....Doubt if they'll send me even one !

  • The Taiwan (ROC) Government announced a ban on the entry of all foreign visitors into the country until further notice. The ban takes effect from Thursday, March 19, in the wake of the COVID-19 global pandemic that has claimed thousands of lives worldwide.

  • Global Warming....solved. Next up....Nuclear Armegeddon.

  • Brazil (I don't know if it is in all cities): birthday parties and weddings have been suspended. business fairs as well. closed theaters and cinemas. concentrations of people were prohibited. classes at colleges and schools have been suspended. no way for photo and video work. buy food and stay home!

Everything is closing but supermarket, bakery and pharmacy.
