Considering recent changes on DRAM and NAND prices, as well as drop of camera module prices due to smartphones sales fall - new iPhone lineup sets absolute margins record for Apple (some of models cost 1/4 of the asking price to produce, some 1/3).

Apple even requested suppliers to provide cheaper battery option for all but Pro Max, so smartphones will switch to suppliers who are usually used in the mid range Chinese and Samsung smartphones, such approach will allow to milk another $15-35 depending on model.

Good resolution mode is 12mp, all else is various weird ways to make it bigger marketing number.

Overall most progress in 58-108Mp sensors is handling of high contrast scenes, but only if software will match this. Video HDR on Android still mostly sucks compared to Apple devices.

  • The new 108 Mp Samsung's are 12Mp in main mode but I think the Xiaomi's are 27Mp. Interesting how the two companies utilise the 108Mp sensor differently
