We cover spectrum, color temperature, and all modern color quality standards, including latest 2016 and 2017 years ones.

Never select light based on just CRI number.

Focus on TM30 and CIE 224 and look for color distortion and Rf values.

MW for now is best Aputure light with good light with light quality suitable for videos.

  • How many lumens are this light pumping out?

  • "Underwater" review of MW. I think that the light FX are an interesting but... strange addition to this light. For shooting a sitcom where people are watching TV underwater.

  • @Firworks

If you do not need specific light - just ignore this product.

Also it is good idea to look for specialized solutions for underwater, as such firms gain reputation for long time. It is big difference to have your light break in dark cave or on bright lit nice studio.

  • The MW is bright but I wish the brightness could be run at "boost" mode level the whole time.

Is it possible to hack the firmware? ;-)

  • @EspenB

I doubt it. And leds will just burn, it is reason why it is time limited as cooling can't keep up.

  • I wish they they incorporated a temp sensor for real life monitoring of heat.

    https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/review-the-aputure-amaran-al-mw-led-light

"At full output this light gets quite hot. The case acts as a heat sink, with the back being full of fins, and it does its job very well. I measured the temperature to be in the region of around 47-52°C (116-125°F) at full output. Part of the reason for the limited run time of the boost function is to protect the battery from overheating."

BTW: I can't recall that it gets this hot (like 50 deg C).

  • @EspenB

Proper temperature measurement in led lights is hard and complex.

As thing you need to know is called Tjunction - temperature of diode junction.

Thing that all review sites measure has little real purpose.

As for back being heatsink - site do not mention that between leds and this finned back it is battery and board. So, it is shitty heatsink.
