Sony XEVC, new half proprietary shit from Sony
    • Sony want to introduce new H.265 based professional container – XEVC, the successor of XAVC.
    • XEVC is CRF (Constant Rate Factor) based contrary to Canon’s ABR (Average Bitrate) based XF-HEVC.
    • XEVC supports:
      • 12Bit YCrCb 4:4:4
      • 12Bit Lossless
      • 12Bit Bayer
      • 12Bit YCrCb 4:2:2 for broadcast delivery
      • 10Bit YCrCb 4:2:2
      • 10Bit YCrCb 4:2:0 for proxy recording

  • why "shit"? it looks like proper next-gen to me. "half-proprietary"? that sounds like an improvement for Sony. When did they use an unencumbered codec?

Considering word "shitty" - it is my personal remark, as I hate Sony approach.

As for half-proprietary - it is also short way to say that all they do last years is messing with standards instead of using them properly.

Looking at the last year it seems like we can soon have 7-10 proprietary custom raw formats. Real shit.
