Ronin-S has a comfortable, ergonomic curved design that helps capture smooth cinematic movements from upright to underslung positions without obstructing the camera’s display. Ronin-S also features DJI’s intelligent battery technology that can be hot-swapped during operation for extended shoots.*

Dedicated control buttons for the camera and gimbal let you toggle between SmoothTrack settings, record and stop the camera, and the high-precision joystick changes the camera position to help frame your shot perfectly. A new Sport mode allows for fast movements with tight and quick subject following speed.

Harness intelligent shooting modes on Ronin-S through the DJI Ronin mobile app to create complex camera moves automatically like Panorama, Hyperlapse, Track and CamAnchor that lets you designate specific camera positions in a scene and rotate between them on demand. Directly customize SmoothTrack settings with dedicated controls for responsiveness of each axis. Camera settings can be directly adjusted as well.**

NEW YORK, May 29, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- B&H Photo would like to share the official announcement of the DJI Ronin-S 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer, a lithe, single-handed tool used to smooth movement when shooting video with a DSLR or mirrorless camera. DJI is daring us to move, and the Ronin-S makes that dare easy to accomplish with its clean and high performance, for camera systems weighing up to 7.9 lb. It also offers one-handed design, enabling simple, intuitive operation, and a slimmer profile for working in confined spaces with ease.

Among the major advantages provided by the Ronin-S is a design that moves the roll axis to a 45-degree angle, ensuring there is a clean line of sight to the camera's rear screen for monitoring purposes. Also, it is a part of DJI's constantly growing ecosystem, and will offer immediate support for plenty of their accessories, including the Master Wheels and Master Force. It has a dual handle system, multiple types of wireless receivers, a focus control setup, and more. Also included are standard mounting points for attaching useful tools like microphones and lights.

Three operational modes are available for added versatility--underslung, upright, and flashlight. Each of these is determined by the desired grip and angle of the shot, and make it more comfortable to operate for longer periods of time. The gimbal can even be removed from the handle and mounted on other supports, such as a jib or RC car, for which there is a dedicated mode to ensure silky smooth motion. A Sport Mode can be enabled for moments of fast-paced action.

  • I wonder if there is a cable to extend the 8 pin port on the gimbal, so one can mount the focus wheel on a dual handle.

Some other questions that swirl around in my head: I red that you can not control focus via Sbus. Is this true? What about CAN Bus? Are there in general any information available about the DJI protocols?

    • Sleep mode can be enabled by pressing once or twice of the gimbal power button.
    • Optimized zoom adjustment when using Sony cameras’ multi-port with Power Zoom lens, The zoom speed can be set from 1 to 100 (requires DJI Ronin v1.2.4 app or later).
    • Fixed other minor bugs.
  • Active Track 3.0 is rather useless for pro work in my opinion, as beside setting it to fast/slow it can not be adjusted and it does allow the object to move relativly far to the side before it pans in both settings. So the resulting footage looks like filmed by a camera man half asleep. Add the hassle of completly rebalancing the whole system to far off values if you add the mobile on top of the cam (and balancing back to normal if you remove it) makes this quite a bummer. Might work out if you crop some in post and do some additional tracking on the object.

Force Mobile on the other side is just amazing. I have a HDMI transmitter and Tilta Nano remote follow focus motor attached to the cam on gimbal. When you hold the monitor with receiver, mobile and tilta focus wheel attached to it, you can pan, tilt and focus VERY intuitive. It pretty much feels as if you would turn the cam directly, with just a little latency, and smoothed out. This adds quite some value to the gimbal, as it allows to create really natural looking pans when mounted on crane or gib. It needs to recablibrated to recenter after each take, but you do not feel this while paning, as you only see the picture on screen, and have no reference. This is really amazing.
