    Suppose you make tire for road based slow rolling product. Ideal tire tread is simple flat one, as it provide maximum traction and maximum flat protection.
    Also for slow moving things you can't have aquaplaning, and it is sole normal reason you see grooves on auto tires.
    You can open any good article on F1 tires, very refreshing.
    Yet more "advanced" tread sell better, as it looks... well, advanced. Plus for some manufacturers it allows to save on rubber also.
    Better guys like Schwalbe compensate marketing requirements by smart design and added puncture protection.
