Good Quote: On Education
  • The most necessary task of civilization is to teach people how to think. It should be the primary purpose of our public schools. The mind of a child is naturally active, it develops through exercise. Give a child plenty of exercise, for body and brain. The trouble with our way of educating is that it does not give elasticity to the mind. It casts the brain into a mold. It insists that the child must accept. It does not encourage original thought or reasoning, and it lays more stress on memory than observation.

    Thomas A. Edison

  • One hundred years. And nothing changed.

  • Well, even older one (one that Edison loved)

There is no expedient to which a man will not go to avoid the labor of thinking.

You must also understand that our brain work like associative memory with prediction. Hence if you do not feed him data first you will get nothing from it. Problem of education is that it ignores nature and nature is good on dumping all things that is not required.

  • Btw, most people also focus on their own education (that is also memory based mostly), but ignore that Chinese education is like 10x worse, for example.
