SDHC and UHS Readers for USB 3.0
  • Didn't find a topic so started new one.

My desktop computer doesn't have USB 3.0 ports. Transfer speed with old Hama USB 2.0 SD card reader was pretty slow.

Test file to transfer: 3,95GB compressed video
SD card: Sandisk Extreme Pro 32GB 45MB/s

    USB 2.0
    -------
    Write: 6min 36seconds
    Read: 6min 39seconds

Then I bought this http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150601052134 USB 3.0 reader. Cost only ~18$ including shipping. And for USB 3.0 SD card reader I chose Transcend TS-RDF8K http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220851168839 . Cost ~23$ including shipping.

    USB 3.0
    -------
    Write: 1min 51seconds
    Read: 1min 34seconds

I'm happy with the results. Test setup computer's SSD is OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G.

  • don't forget to check if your mainboard support these USB card...I had two of them. First I meant it was the card, who is defective but unfortunately my mainboard don't support these USB 3.0 cards. Good luck!
