Tascam DR-10C - recorder for lavaliers
  • TASCAM’s DR-10C-series recorders connect to your lavaliere microphone to create a compact recording system that fits on a belt pack. Two versions are available: the DR-10CL for Lectrosonics mics and DR-10CS for Sennheiser microphones. Additionally, option kits are available for Shure (AK-DR10CH) and Sony/RAMSA (AK-DR10CR.)

The DR-10CL & CS recorders have both inputs and outputs, so they can either be used stand-alone or with a wireless transmitter. When used with a transmitter, the DR-10C acts as a backup to protect against wireless dropouts during recording. For lectures or worship services, the DR-10C can record the entire program before it gets to the front of house system. And for events like weddings and reality TV production, the DR-10C is a compact recording system for body mics.

The lightweight DR-10C runs for hours on a single AAA battery.

  • Also - great if your dubbing mixer loves radios ;) Oh we don't ! ... and Iron - the hours I've spent re-spotting DSLR footage badly synced by a 3 am intern that incidentally comes back on the sound department when it fails - several hours on the phone with broadcasters on that one too with the QC department! lol

  • A double/triple hand clap helps the automated algorithms in your NLE sync up tracks a bit better than a single clap.

  • Better be sharp on the sync claps on every shot and enjoy syncing them up if you have multiples after, with the wandering crystals on long shots - I don't lol.

  • Juicedlink offers significant discount if you're buying 2 or more, and the discount increases with quantity. Details on their site

  • The Juicedlink just went on sale. Too bad, because a month ago I could have used about a half dozen of either of these.

  • @IronFilm Here's a link to UK company showing them for sale - not sure if this is something they really have in stock. Yeah, I had also heard talk of there being a lawsuit over patents affecting this item being for sale in US (and maybe also Juicedlink Little Darling delay). B&H had them for sale for a month, then certain versions were no longer available. Now that Darling is available in US, I'll probably go for Darling because it has a -16db lower safety track, and I think the Tascam is only -6db.

  • Soooo.... what happened to these? Can't seem to see them for sale anywhere (stupid dumb pstent laws grrrr...). But they're still up and listed on Tascam's website.

  • Has anyone seen or tried one of these yet? I've noticed they're starting to become available here in the UK.

I'm tempted to get one mainly because of the small size, but also the backup -6db track. I love the tiny Yamaha C24 recorders I have but the self noise seems pretty high so I'd like to know how this compares.

  • Looks like Juicedlink is still working at it... Just deciding to add a bunch of features.

  • Very strange. Tascam best idea is to offer it as wide as possible for online shops.

  • I don't have any patent details. I'm just following a Tascam topic over at http://jwsoundgroup.net/index.php?/topic/23090-gotta-love-the-innovation-coming-out-of-tascam-at-the-moment/page-2 and Glen Trew, who runs Trew Audio, has spoken to Zaxcom about it.

  • I believe the issue with both the Juicedlink and Tascam offerings has to do with Zaxcom patents.

Any reference to this patent? As I am not sure that you can patent obvious ideas.

  • yeah... thats definitely a likely scenario... super bummed though... the Zaxcom stuff, while pretty awesome, is a tad bit outside my budget. Guess I'm sticking with my Teac VR-10's in cell phone holders :)

  • I believe the issue with both the Juicedlink and Tascam offerings has to do with Zaxcom patents.

  • I placed a pre-order for 2 of these on Amazon last week... now apparently tascam's website says they're not going to be available in the US. wonder if there's a patent issue or something with the Juicedlink LittleDarlings, or maybe thats why the LittleDarlings have not been released.

  • The biggest cost here is not the recorder but the mics. Wonder if there are cheaper options that will work well, in terms of connector, impedance, power draw etc.

  • I addition to using the Little Darling as a lav setup I was thinking to use it with a Videomic Pro for an ultra compact setup, like with the H1, for doc work - So my question is if the DR-10c can be adapted to take a mini jack, and if yes if it's advisable?

  • Ok thanks VK, never owned Tascam products so didn't know about the additional variable level adjustment.

  • MIC input gain LOW / MID / HIGH - only adjustable in 3 steps, that's strange and my only concern.

Well, it is three settings of preamps as on other Tascam recorders. You can adjust level additionally, of course.

  • Perfect product for me, at last I can retire my 2 Zoom H1's that I was using for this purpose. The backup track at reduced db makes this price point worth it.

    Dimensions 52(W) × 55.6(H) × 24.4(D) mm - great small size

MIC input gain LOW / MID / HIGH - only adjustable in 3 steps, that's strange and my only concern.

  • Yeah, I ran into a situation recently where my G3 had a small level of interference and while the sound was still usable, this recorder would've been more than ideal as a backup. I will probably still buy one at launch - before I live to regret it.

  • Perhaps they'll offer discounted two-packs, it seems I'm getting really stingy in my old age :)

Well, for the guys who use two pairs of good wireless systems and good mikes for them, and for projects where you need sound with warranty (and this is exactly that it is for), it is strange to save on it.

If you just use recorders without wireless, you do not need it.
