come on guys, please test the DRO lv5 in video and contrast at min. with the latest firmware, in high contrast situation
Here is an interesting Red Epic, GH4 and A7s ISO test.
@vstardust thx! the simplest lens of them all nikkor 50mm f/1.8. as for battery life i'd say it drinks ca. 10%-15% of juice per 10min of 24/25p recording. Drinks a little more in higher fps. Make sure you have it in Airplane mode to save battery life. I bought 2 cheap replacement batteries. both have 7.4V and about 3900 mAh. thats quadruple the power of a sony one but it turns out that they last no longer then the sony ones. I've been discharging/charging the batteries here all the time. Looks like in order to fill up my 64Gb card (2:40h of footage) I'll need 3 batteries. And that's just straight shooting. need one more for framing the shots I guess.
the jello is pretty significant in FF when handheld. At times it feels like you're shooting on an old phone. gotta keep it steady. at times you just need to throw a rolling shutter plugin at it and you're fine. RS plugin, then neat video and you're left with a gorgeous image that has a lot of headroom and can take a beating. 4K out of this one downsampled to HD should have even finer noise but i need something cheeper then shogun for that.
I'm getting a lot more flares on FF. This was a nice surprise.
second day of shooting. 50Mb/s h.264 1,3Gb https://mega.co.nz/#!FssRxYKL!Ffx8viKEa0r8AJAI2W2puIzAznNo6Ie3dmFaabnd72E 100mm f/2.8 macro nikon APS-C Slog2 only still shots with no focus pulling are 25p. the rest is 50p and kids in the other half of the video are 120p. no added filmgrain. just CC. follow focus needed badly.
the simplest lens of them all nikkor 50mm f/1.8
@jurand it is an awsome lens IMHO, it beats clearly all the f/1.4 50mm Nikkors. It just has a bit stronger field curvature than a perfect lens should.
I do agree with Philip Bloom, this "A7s produces a very lovely image".... but you better be good with all the color grading things.
My short time with the α7S was a beautiful and blissful affair - enough to whet my appetite for the creative possibilities it could unlock, but just not enough to really come to terms with the interface enough to unlock them..
I am now having a really hard time accepting the image quality from my Panasonic GH3, which is by no means a bad camera. At the same time, I didn’t enjoy the hand-held video shooting experience of the α7S as much as the GH3 and GH4. Strange button positioning aside, I think that might be a personal habit issue more than the camera itself.

The History Channel doc will probably sell a lot more A7s for Sony.
Hi Everybody, I just finished my review of the Sony A7s! I've even included a brief comparison between the A7s and the GH4. Both cameras are solid and are more than capable for professional productions. Here is my video review:
If you'd rather read my written review, check it out here: http://filmbrosmedia.com/the-sony-a7s-review/Yesterday I went down to Bhphoto and tried out every camera I could find. The Sony, to my suprise, was the real winner here, as well as the GH4, the Sony 4K prosumer and the 20x lens of the Canon G30.
I expected to dislike the Sony, but it is a damn fine camera.
That is a gorgeous photograph. Is anyone here using the battery grip on the a7s for shooting video? If so are you getting longer record times over swapping out batteries?
