Dell Venue Pro 8
  • Got one not long ago, they are below $200 on ebay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Venue-8-Pro-Atom-Quad-Core-1-33GHz-32GB-Windows-8-1-Tablet-w-Dual-Cameras-/360869968684

Not bad comparing to my iPad Mini Retina. Screen is not so good, but software selection is much better, especially considering that all iPad video/audio players can have not bad interface, but pale in comparison with their free Windows alternatives due to various restrictions :-)

Sad thing that they do not come with stylus anymore, Dell discontinued it. Otherwise very good, btw constantly mentioned home buttons placement is of no issue as simple swipe brings big software home key on any device :-) Plus you can always add big MicroSD card contrary to any Apple device.

  • I'm looking for Windows PAD device that would be used with synth to load VST plugins. I know some VSTs requires some CPU power, but maybe some simpler VSTs would work.

But this device doesn't seem to be good alternative because:

The micro USB is used for charging and if you want to plug in a USB device such as a keyboard and mouse, you have to use an OTG cable. You can't charge the device while having a USB periferal plugged in at the same time.

This is simple, you need i3/i5 based tablet, Samsung older tablets or Surface Pro/Pro 2 will do, as few others. You can check computer deals topic here for some.

Atom tablets are good for playback, some text editing, browsing, presentations and such. As bunch of idiots are designing tablets now - most of modern ones lack big USB ports.

  • Nevermind, I don't have the ST2e but rather the enhanced security version. And as @Vitaliy_Kiselev mentions below, it is slow compared to newer tablets like the Venue Pro.

  • @jpbturbo

It is old thing, based on Intel Atom Z2760 , much slower even than Venue Pro (they use newer and faster 4 core Atoms) . I referenced good usable tablets. Charging on Surface Pro also is not using any USB ports.

  • So far so good. The more I work with them, the more I like Windows 8.1 tablets.

Moved almost entirely to TP2 and DV from my Android and iPad Mini retina :-)

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev which one you were talking? Looking for a good tablet could do preview mts...

  • @tinbeo

One in title of this topic.

About playback of MTS files. It depends on MTS also. If you plan to playback 4K/very high bitrate ones you need to write them on microsd, also add portable video player with all codecs embedded to card and try in shop. As you will need proper hardware acceleration working here.

  • Remember that today it is available for $159

  • About games on it

A couple of years ago, if you tried to tell me I'd be enjoying a game of Left 4 Dead on an 8-inch tablet, I probably would have laughed. Substitute that title with Oblivion, Burnout Paradise, The Battle for Middle Earth 2, Dota 2, and so on. They're all enjoyable, and I just showed that they're playable, too. Plus, the legacy PC game library is spectacularly huge; we didn't even scratch the surface here today.
