What has happened over the last five years is no different to what would happen if I lost my job but didn't tell my wife.
I would pretend to go to work every day and borrow a huge amount of money against my house so that everything appeared normal. She would think things were ticking along nicely.
Until the day dawned when I could no longer borrow and our house was 100% loan collateral. I would have to front up and tell her the truth and at that moment her world would come crashing down around her ears.
Except that what you describe is true for the known world, not just one couple, a few people, or a few hundred million people. Monetary value is already contrived.
Europe, the EZB (European Central Bank), is also available for this madness - our future is burned
