Friction Arm Attachment

Hi,
I've been trying to find out whether the hot show mount on friction arm rigs are removable as I would like to mount directly to the 1/4" or 3/8" thread on my tripod head and then to a 5.6" monitor but it isn't clear whether this is possible with any of tye cheap friction arms that I can see...
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
