SSD vs HDD for FireWire video capture
  • I am capturing some old Digital 8, Hi8, 8mm, VHS, miniDV tapes through the firewire port on the pci card. When I capture to SSD the software freezes, when I capture to HDD the software works fine. I just don't know why... Both SSD and HDD are connected to Sata port direct to motherboard. For playback and editing both SSD and HDD works fine.

  • It is pretty old stuff.

At first you ened to see exact SSD model, as new QLC ones can have 20-30Mb/sec recording speed. Much worse than HDD.

One good advice can be to buy used DVD recorder (super cheap now!) and just capture to disk directly (both analog and digital).
