If there's a new David Lowery project coming up, you can bet we're sat for it. And this is one we've been waiting for a long time. His newest project with A24 is the highly anticipated Mother Mary, starring Anne Hathaway, Michaela Coel, and Hunter Schafer. After several years in development, we finally see that the story revolves around a disgraced pop star (Hathaway) going to her ex-friend, a costumer (Coel). Maybe there's something more between them. The pop star seems plagued by demons or visions or something else that her friend tries to exorcise. Also starring are F.K.A. Twigs and Alba Baptista, with original music from Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX.The shoot took 14 months. After wrapping, Hathaway posted on Instagram that the film was "one of the most extraordinary, transformative experiences I have ever had."Over a year ago at the Melbourne International Film Festival, Lowery teased the story and told an audience it was “a weird, weird film.”Lowery's penchant for epic storytelling and grand visuals seems to be at play here, despite the constraint of the location (rumors have it that the entire story takes place within the barn seen in the trailer).
