Viltrox Joins the L-Mount Alliance

Viltrox is joining Leica, SIGMA, Panasonic, Black Magic Design, Samyang, DJI, and others in the ever-growing L-Mount alliance. The Chinese manufacturer, a relatively new player in our field, will be the latest addition to the mount in a move that should benefit both the company and L-Mount users, who will have more options to choose from. With cameras from Panasonic, Leica, SIGMA, and DJI, every lens is a welcome addition, and Viltrox is already responsible for some unique offerings across the cine-hybrid market. Viltrox is all over the place, and that’s not a bad thing. The company offers a vast range of cine-related products, ranging from batteries to lights, from adapters to monitors, and from low-end, affordable still-hybrid lenses to cine glass and even some crazy cine-zooms. This extensive, though relatively young, expertise will now enhance one of the newest mirrorless mounts. What should L-Mount users expect from Viltrox? As per the initial press release, not much has been guaranteed. This is, of course, no surprise, as most press releases don’t come with a roadmap or specific timeline. It would be fair to expect Viltrox to create L-Mount versions for their AF lenses (currently available for FUJIFILM X, Canon RF, Nikon Z, and Sony E mounts), and maybe feature improved L-Mount adapters. Even the Air Series, made for Super 35 / APS-C cameras, can fit the bill, as we’ve seen several APS-C lenses made for the mainly full-frame L-Mount.
