There was a world before the Wachowskis made The Matrix, and a world after. This science fiction action movie changed the way Hollywood functions. It brought in a new sense of style for directors and elevated the fight scene to something we had never seen before in eastern cinema. But the movie also left mass audiences with a lot of questions. There were probes into the deeper meaning of the film, its influences, and the characters at the center of the franchise. Each new sequel brought more and more questions—to the point where the trilogy really needs an explainer as we prepare for the fourth movie. That’s what we plan on doing. Understanding The Matrix One of my favorite movie-going experiences ever was my dad taking me to this movie and its sequels.
