'Sopranos' Creator Upset Prequel Will Be Streamed on HBO Max

Pretty much everyone is excited for the upcoming release of The Sopranos prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark. However, the original series creator doesn't seem to approve of the studio's distribution methods. Recently, Sopranos series creator David Chase spoke with Deadline about his frustrations with the news that the prequel film will now be released on streaming simultaneously with theaters. This is, as you probably know, a business model that HBO Max has been testing all year. “I don’t think, frankly that I would’ve taken the job if I knew it was going to be a day-and-date release. I think it’s awful,” Chase said. You can really sense how important it was to these showrunners and creators to have this project released as separate from the TV show as possible. I mean, The Sopranos is practically the definition of cinematic television and pioneered the methods that many shows use today.
